    Group/Club representation threads?

Does it seem like a good idea to have a board where a representative of a bike club or group can post a brief outline about their group or club? This would have basically a list on KB of biker clubs, and people who are members or have at least met up and road with that club can comment about their experience.

Just a thought. I've seen it on some sports forums. Clubs post a thread on a separate area from the rest of the day to day chat with title such as "Heathcote Masters Soccer Club - Christchurch" and the thread contains an outline and contact details. And with that board consisting of a list of groups, anyone can find groups to go out with if they so feel like it.

I have some problems with "club" forums.

    Some are hardly used.

    Some have their moments.

Others are used as "micro KB sites" with much of their content that should be out in the general forums -- a bit like sexed-up versions of LOTPIHGAD. This results in a lot of repetition, particularly around advertising "events". Most untidy.

I dont think you understand what I was saying. It isn't a club forum.

If you take for example the New Members Speak.. that has one post for each new member. They can tell about themselves, people can say hi welcome and if they know the person.

Something similar for groups was my idea. Group representitive can put up ONE post with an outline of who they are. People can post if they are interested, want to know more, or giving feedback on rides they went on with that group.

i can see the merit behind that... my local club i ride with is the triumph club. but i can also see where the term club gets mixed with gang and could cause trouble. usually new member speak is pretty tame, but a clubs board could lead to trouble, with clubs banding together to trample on another [say, ulysses or similar saying how crap triumph or similar are. not that that would happen, but as an example.]

I was seeing it as more of a bulletin board, just like the activities boards you find at polytechs and uni. Frankly the only thing I've ever seen on here as problematic is the sports bike/cruiser banter.

Well I think what you mean is what we already have?

Look at all the posts and activity for the Auckland USMC. http://www.kiwibiker.zyns.com/forums...splay.php?f=84

Personally I find it annoying as KB is for everyone yet we have all these AUSMC posts scattered through it. These posts will be for their members as opposed to the rest of us

Meh, those just have posts by their members chatting. It's not really a list with a description anywhere on who they are.

I came across this thread looking for whats around by way of clubs.

Would be good to see a forum dedicated to this, moderated should be enough to keep out the bs, locked stickys if it doesn't.

This could be useful for people with specific bikes who want to seek out a local club, eg vintage clubs, harley clubs, british, scooter clubs, etc. Allow a representative of each club to moderate/ update events.. swap meets, etc. saves getting lost with all the other general stuff.

I think as been decided for all of us, that if you want something like that you have to PM an admin and they will set up a special Club board section for just the club you represent (located where you see Club 250 and the other 2 or 3)

Not really what I had in mind, as all I needed was a single bulletin/pinned and locked thread outlining the club, and have it in a list of other clubs that have the same.

As a Ulysses member, I would disagree with that statement. Many Ulysses members are also members of specific "motorcycle manufacturers" clubs (ie Triumph, BMW, HD, Goldwing etc) and as a Ulyssian since 1996, I would say that i have never heard a member seriously diss another bike. Many of us speak tongue in cheek, but we are all bikers in the end.

i did say at the end that it wouldnt happen... just as an example. i know it would never happen, but some clubs might try it.

It wouldn't happen if it was just a list located on here. There wouldn't be need to make the threads replyable. A club gets one post to outline who they represent, and then it is locked.

Its a viable idea, but you would then have to have a mod lock it adding to their already large work load. You would highley likely get a multitude of people posting up clubs they think up one day and never go further with the next and they could never be stickied as that would run into multiple pages unless there was a separate forum for that.

I see where you coming from, but once the group leader has posted up and the thread locked, how would you know of any changes to times, meetings ect and how would you know how active it is?

There are possibly ways around this, but the work involved outweighes the benefits IMO.

    Good thought though

And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

The single threads posted by clubs' rep doesn't nessarily have where and when. It would have "We are... and we like..We've bee doing this since... and we hope in the next few years to...So if this sounds like your kind of group you can look at... or contact.. Remember you need to... and there are/aren't fees involved" etc.

Chromed Knuckles as a website, and a calendar on it dedicated to the where and when, as do Plains MC and Ulysses (those are the only others I can think of right now).

    Edit--

If you can wait, I am happy to make up a mock example over the weekend to show what I mean. As for updating which clubs are active.. all that needs is one annual PM message/email to the person putting the club post up and if theres no reply within two weeks it is removed. Something along those lines.

Sorry I didn't get around to doing the mock up one. I got stuck getting my car serviced on Saturday, then had to go to my mums as it was her BD, then went over to Geeks and fell asleep! Then Sunday I had lots of cleaning to in the house

However, I've quickly photoshopped up a picture of the idea.

basically the threads posted and locked (not stickied). Thread is deleted after a year unless person who posted it can confirm its still valid. Updates to posts can be made at via requests to mods. No posts for the same club but different regions can be made. Ie.. no seperate HOG posts for Canterbury and Auckland.. all contact details should be merged into one post.

Perhaps also have a Club Posting sticky at the top with any rules and outlines that are decided for how it works (such as saying thread is deleted after a year unless the person can confirm it is still valid).

    Just my thoughts.
