    Well, someone should be panicking....
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I drained out over 500mls cos someone over-filled it. Someone needs to be more careful with the level in the sightglass. And someone needs to check that the correct type of oil is put in a motorcycle...Shell Helix Fully-synthetic in the silver pack is great oil - in a new(ish) high-performance car engine.

bugger! good save. just out of interest, what happens if there is too much oil? i have an idea its not good, but not sure what exactly happens.

ive done that... overfilled the gn once. and the virago once. have also ridden a gn from wangas to levin and back with NO oil and still she ran [albeit a tad rattlier]

Hard to say. But one or more of three things can happen.
    1. Nothing
    2. Excess will be forced through the crankcase breather into the air filter box
    3. Excess will be pressurised up past the rings
A small excess amount is unlikely to be a problem , but 20-25% over...who knows.

thanks for that. i know at work, if the oil in a car is over half full, we recommend the driver to check in a week, stating that having too much is as bad as having nothing, but ive never known the reason why.

Erm... yeah.... So maybe I got a little enthusiastic with the oil filling thing... BUT it did need oil and I had intended to put only half a litre in ... just that the enthusiasm thingy took over!

Thanks again HB peeps for a great weekend. It's good to have a bunch of friends who can handle having me around for longer than 5 minutes. And handle the hugs... of course how many other people would let you lot give them the grief that I let you give me? Or lend me the clothes off their back... literally...

Interesting to see the reactions when I took my helmet off too!
