...and I rode fireliv's Bandit.
Thoughts (with reference to riding the NZ): Hmm... so this is what it's like to ride a bike that actually has brakes?! By comparison, the NZ might as well have brake pads made of cheese. The first time I grabbed the brake lever (on the Bandit) it had more bite than I expected, it surprised me. After that, however, I was able to use it with confidence, more confidence than on the NZ even after having ridden it for nearly two years.
I also felt that the motor was much nicer, too. Sure, water cooled, inline four, compared to an air cooled single, it ought to be, but I liked it. Probably only a nose faster than the NZ, but much smoother and more pull higher in the rev range... it just felt more effortless too.
The riding position didn't suit me much though. Relatively low seat, and high pegs that were too far forward to get comfortable. Wearing my zip together leathers it was difficult getting my feet back on the pegs after pulling away from an intersection, and didn't get any more comfortable once on the move. Indeed, after checking out a 10 minute section of road I needed to stop and stretch my legs already. This would suit a shorter rider... or at least less restrictive leathers.
Overall though, nice bike to ride, thanks Liv! Pity the NZ's being fixed...
Anyway, we suspect there won't be many (if any) learners coming on this, the first Cruisy Wednesday Night Right (Christchurch chapter), so we reckon out through Halswell, down old Tai Tapu Road (past Rossendale), out thru Motukarara, over Gebbies Pass, maybe stop for a leak (and let others catch up, though this is definitely a cruise, no hurry) at the Wheatsheaf, then back into town, maybe choose a pub to meet at. You can choose whether you want to take Dyers Pass Road over the hill, or around the bays and through the tunnel, we'll see you back in town either way.
