i think where nish and ehab parked today was good, the path is wide enough there to leave a good amount of room with them parking longways, no bikes were leaning out into the path either, much more room and much more outta the way

    Cowboy holsters?
    Or something more interesting?

    you decide.

PS you better be in quick though there were only one pair like that, all the others had full crotch attached :P

all bikes are at risk of theft or other damage. if i rode a scooter, i would be just as gutted over any damage as i would i i rode a $20,000 harley. no matter what the ride, that bike is important to its owner, and the owner may well be dependant on that scoot for transport. i know if my bike is in the shop, im basically crippled as it is my sole form of transport. id be pretty much dead if it got stolen.

as for moving a bike, thats just not on. i bet youd be spitting tacks if someone moved yours, so why think its ok to touch someone elses. [ie, if you park with the sidestand in the road of foot traffic, someone takes offence and tips your bike up so its leaning on the wall]

do you guys have signed bike parking up there? if so, why not use it? cos youll get a wet seat? then get some overpants... they get wet, but your backside stays dry. or else stick a plastic bag over the seat, and take it off when you leave. i dont know how many of you are actually involved in this, but remember, it only takes one psycho dean to take offence and send a bike sideways. bikes are always in the minority [except at bike shops] and we will always be ruled against.

when you lot enter the work force, you may not have a choice where to park, whether you get to park under shelter or not. i dont have that choice [parking on the forecourt could get my bike hit, and i have seen little kids fucking around with it as well. pity it wasnt hot at the time.] so i simply park in the rain and wear a pair of leather overpants. only weather that sees me risking a ding from a car is hail or very very strong sidewinds.

i said "at risk of theft" - who in their right mind would steal a scooter? also, for some of us a replacement bike can be hard to find and we live a significant distance from the city (so MAJOR inconvenience) - can't really say the same for all the 50cc scooters out there

that's why i park it where it won't affect anyone - notice i don't park up by that steel bar? it's cause i don't use a bike lock/cable/chain, so won't take space from those who do.... and that said, if my bike was moved a little bit, and not damaged, i would probably be ok with it provided there was a likely reaon to move it (again i only move scooters when the gap is just too small for my bike - if they don't want to be moved 30cm they should park closer together)

hey, i'm not moaning about a wet seat - i'd park there either way

if people will steal a ratty pair of covers from a gn250, theyll steal a scooter. not so much to have it, just to be a pain in the ass and alleiviate their own boredom for 5 seconds. [kinda like the guys who graffiti mindless shit that no one can read, or like the woman that shoplifted a car air freshner from the warehouse... they found it down her knickers, of all places!]

and no, i didnt notice. kinda cos your there, and im here. lol. my vision aint that good, lol.

no, i havent, but ive got the general idea. to me, the bikes safety is paramount, and parking in a spot where it could get knocked by foot traffic... nada. not good.

problem is that the guys stealing bikes are doing exactly that - stealing high value sportbikes, and don't seem to interested in the swathes of scooters (if they were we'd know). now that we at uni have hidden our bikes they've probably moved onto another part of auckland....

does that ducati 998 still park on symonds street? somebody should talk to him or leave a note or something... then again, if he's gone i think my bike is next on the theft list (i still occasionally park on symonds if i'm lazy/in a hurry), and once my steering lock is broken there's nothing to stop 'em - and i've already spent $500 on a new ignition back before uni started

It's not the theft, or getting a wet seat. The main problems, and the main reason why most people park there, is because A) when the sun's out, there's sweet fuck all parking available, and it's quite likely you'll have trouble finding room, and B) Symonds St is scary-dangerous to get in and out of. I see near misses every day, and pulling a U-turn across four lanes of rush-hour traffic is every so slightly nerve-wracking. What's worse is actually backing into the parking space, whilst taking up part of a lane.

yea but some are at much MUCH greater risk than others of being stolen...also the cost or replacing a scooter is much less than that of replacing, oh i dont kno, an RSV1000 that was stolen a couple months back....but yes everonye is interested in protecting their belongings

i agree with you, i got pissed off the other day coz someone had stuck a "free barbie" poster on my side view mirror, i was fuming and had planned on going to the barbie to express my views but later fond out that it was ehab...i fully dont condone moving or messing with random peoples bikes

yes but as you may have read symonds st parking is usually packed, with scooters taking up a lot more space than they need...also bigger bikes like mine with a shitty turning circle find it near impossible to fit perfectly into a tight squeeze first time...for me my bikes safety is paramount....if i came back to my bike n found her on her side id be in tears but if i came back and found that she was gone id probably havea heart attack

i am in the workforce, i have 4 different jobs and it isnt that hard to find a park in safe, sheltered areas.....most of my bosses really like my bike and will go out of their way to ensure that they allow me a safe place to park it.

Ignore Bomma, he whinges like a bitch

I don't know if anybody ever got a photo of Symonds St when it's full, I remember somebody requested one for the council. I ought to take one some time (at least when the weather's cleaned up and the pansy-girly bikers have started riding again).

Dude, I may be biased because I've got an old bike, but I don't really give a shit how expensive your bike is. For some guy working $9.50 in BK with a $500 scooter, it's just as much of a financial hit as it is when your $x000 ZX7R gets nicked. In fact, at least your bike (and other more pricey bikes) is/are likely to be insured.

With the new law on third party insurance not sure would scooters need to also have at least third party insurance. This would probably be extra cost for poor students so they might be less scooters on the road. I noticed several times a white CBR929 parking on Symond St. bike park. Wonder why it was not pinched by the scums. Probably they know what a HISS is.....good Honda....security system.

Or maybe they didn't steal it because they knew it would take 4 weeks to get a fuel sensor.... eh Kim?! BTW: what's the latest on your bike, will you have it for the Coromandel this weekend? It's been so long since you last rode it that you'll probably need a few weeks just to get used to it again!

No news part must still be at customs besides I am so used to the Guzzi now and hoping to do more k's on it unless the bike comes back. CBR's will be easy to ride and get used to in a short time as I have not ridden anything but CBR's for a long time.
