Fuck all this "I'm better than you shit".
Hey Uberhys: You ever raced your Vespa at that Auckland circut? I saw a full-on Vespa race championship on the late night news once and thought man that would be fun to go and watch. Apparently racers had souped up their Vespas to crank 160kph! Must be pretty fucken hairy doing those speeds with your legs shut and toes pointing forward?!
Any info on when the next Vespa race meet is would be appreciated!
Why is our University in the middle of the city in the first place?
Bikes cost more than scooters - you do know that scooters aren't just 50cc's now don't yah? 50cc scoots range from $500-$2k, my 06 GT was $7k and the bigger the scoot the bigger the price. There is a v-twin Gillera which may be out of both yours and my range... Isn't that how it works with bikes as well? Pretty sure it is otherwise R1's would be readily available to everyone at a cheap price.
Do agree though that insurance should be compulsary for [B]all[B] motorised road users. Responsible road use.
Yeah putting together a plan for next season. They do go like sh#t off a shovel though, pop down to Mt Wellington Kart track out the back of the Tamaki campus on race day and check it out. There are other bikes racing there at the same time. I remember some dude got pasted going into a corner and he got taken by 2 fast scoots - he never lived it down in the pits. The flip side to any racing though is the faster you go the more it hurts. Las t Sunday a chap put his scoot down at pace and broke the tib & fib leg bones. A few months before that my mate came off with a puncture and smashed his foot into more pieces. but hey - heaps of fun...
Ha! Wicked, can you let me know by PM when the next race day is then? Cheers.
again, why?
That Pizza Hut Coke dude is right, globally it is rare to have a university in the CBD of a major city. The land value is too high and the 30,000-odd students add to congestion. UOA is a useless campus spread all over the city. Students have to cross dangerous roads and walk all over town sometimes just to get your next class. The buildings are a mixture of run down shit holes from the 60s to amazingly modern buildings like the new business school one. But overall, UOA is so geographically segregated that students also become segregated. You come in to classes and cruise off home after straight away. Other unis have a more centralised layout, interdepartmental interaction and much more campus life. AND, most importantly to this thread: many universities have decent student parking too!
the uni started in 1890 odd didn't it? and the city sort of... grew around it?
yeah i suppose you're right there.... and rent in the city is higher than elsewhere too. perhaps we should pick up all the buildings and steal the aut campus in mt albertEDIT, i mean unitec, not aut
i have developed a "bad" habit of riding from lecture to lecture if it's too far, and as you say, i know us engineers are largely insulated from the rest of uni. i had a high school friend (physics/philosphy conjoint) hanging with me in the engineering building 3rd floor study area and he asked how we all knew each other. seems for other faculties students don't get to stick together as much....
There are no AUT campuses in Mt Albert but I know there were talks of mergers between unis and polytechnics which has probably gone to custered now. Anyway agreed with Macstar it is unusual that UOA and perhaps VUW happen to be located in the CBD region whereas most uni's around the world are in the middle of no where.
Don't just live to ride but ride to live.
AUT is in the middle of the shity to isnt it?
its a university now yknow
