Right I've been following this thread for a bit and wasn't going to post what happened to my bike that caused the write-off but for TheStrangers post. He taught me much about my bike time to give some back. Only a select few know what really happened when it did, and now that its over and done with and I have a new bike I suppose some of you could learn from it...maybe.
Before I explain I'd just like to say for the critics among you that I don't care much for ur unsympethatic ways. Right short and sweet.
Was the last corner of the last session of the last lap of what had been a very very exciting day at the Puke racetrack. I was might impressed with what the R6 could do and with my abilities as a rider also. It was the first time I had the R6 on the track and was learning a lot about the bike and the laws of friction, gravity, inertia and torque (to name a few). Basically what I think happened was that comming into the right hand hairpin slowing down from 270 odd kays :
1. I only slowed down to 130 before entering the hairpin , where normally I would have slowed down to about 100.
2. When I hit the apex I miscalculated the depth of the bend and tried straightning up too soon. ie. I accelerated too soon and too fast. My rear tire spun out from under me, I do remember trying to boost the bike up again using my right knee (when I lost the slider).
So basically I lowsided on the track just after the hairpin. ( v famous spot for all bike crashes at puke). The damage to the bike was superficial to the extent of my knowledge but then again I was told parts for the R6 are v expensive which prompted the write off. As for me I tore my right knee slider right off and grazed through 2 layers of armor on the right knee but other wise didn't get a single scratch or bruise... God Himself, thick leather and Dave (F/F's) <---- I love this guy ..trusty back protector saved me. I consider myself very lucky to not get a single scratch on me otherwise.
So as TheStranger hinted, the lesson I learned from this was to perfect the finer skills of throttle control even when you might not be in the most comfortable position you can imagine.

Any abrasion on frame/swingarm? Forks fine? I don't know how that r6 crashes as i've never had a gooood look at one or thought about it. They shouldn't write off for fairing damage alone unless they know they'll get good money at auction to cover the costs..... weird.
Fairings alone with stickers and bolts and engine covers if needed shouldn't be more than 4-5k at a crazy quote incl labour, that's all.
I'd say 5 k and ur looking at a mint R6 ( got to do the labor urself which isint too hard) .. they will 90% resell the bike and hence they possibly wrote it off... I rode it back fine forks, frame etc all fine. The exaust pushed itself up the swingarms arse and this would be the major expense possibly. I put her down nice and gentle... wasn't in any mood to come off so sat on her until I was practically pinned.
