Thumbs up Lucky escape from cops!!!

Ha my first time ever pulled over and luck was on my side!!! Driving from Clevedon to town the other night in my cage and I was in a bit of a rush through the Takanini back streets to get to the motorway. There's this stupid part where the speed limit changes from 80 to 70 to 50 and back to 70. It was just after 7:30 and I couldn't quite make out cars from a distance. Sooo, I was going 70 in the 50km zone when I came up to these train tracks and a cop just came over them, I was like shit! Braked slowly for the tracks and the cops turned around behind me and on went the lights .

First cop came up and asks the usual is there any reason you were speeding, said they clocked me at 70, admitted it's a annoying area, asked if I wanted to see the reading on the radar. Here I was, first time pulled over, thinking shit 20kms over limit's actually a fair bit, so I said sure I'd like to see the reading in case it was 69 or something. I walk over to the cop car and his mate turns the radar towards me, aaaand....THE BLOODY POWER CORD FALLS OUT! The cop swore and said oh just give him a warning, the cables fallen out when I turned it. I was just trying to stop myself cracking up!

So all in all just a quick warning and "drive safe" and I was on my way again. Gonna watch out for that bit again tonight though lol as I'm out there again!!!

Now i'm going to ask to see the radar the next time (hopefully it will be a while away)

I'm surprised he didn't give you a ticket anyway. I guess it's a requirement to show you the speed? :spudwhat: Kind of pointless, as all it proves is that the unit registered someone, somewhere doing whatever speed it says. That was the point I made when I got my ticket last week:
"What's the point - it doesn't show the time and date, so it proves nothing!"
"You were the only blue bike doing 72 km/h just now!"
"What - does it show a blue bike on it?!?"

Do they also need to ask you if there was any particular reason why you were speeding, or is that just courtesy? I was asked that on previous occasions, but not this time. Previous answers:
"No." (Too surprised - I was actually speeding only to pass a 4WD that I'd been following and breathing the fumes of at 85 km/h for 15 minutes)
"I'm very late for work." (Only 90 minutes or so!)
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Yeah well if he asked a bit more I was gonna mention how I was running a bit late and made a wrong turn and haven't been in the area in a long time...therefore looking out more for roads than for speed signs. Oh and also how I have a clean record and will watch out more carefully for changes in speed limit. He seemed like a pretty cruisy guy anyway .

Yeah that Takanini area is a nightmare. Did my restricted test around there and the tester said the only thing I did wrong was travel too slow in the 70k area. Thought it was 50!

when they ask is there any reason you were speeding they are trying to get you to admit that you had been.........always say " I was not speeding " !!!
if they did not get you on the radar or laser or whatever they cannot ticket you. hence getting let off when the cable came out and they lost the reading.

    classics are:-

any reason you were speeding. A = " i was not speeding "

    how fast do you think you were going. A = " 50 ", " 70 ", " 80 " or " 100 " depending on zone.

never admit guilt in this situation !

some will trap you if they can !!! and it could cost you your licence.

Mate, thats some of the best luck Ive ever heard someone having. 1st time I ever got pulled over I came away with a $600 fine, but in saying that, I deserved the fine and I learnt from it.

^ Right don't ever answer when the cops ask you "ANY REASON YOU WERE SPEEDING".

You don't answer "Yes" because then you would have just admitted to speeding and if you say ''No", you also admitted to speeding.

Like Hospitalfood said, just don't fucken fall in the trap!! It's fucken EASY!!

Next time when they pull you over say "Officer, was there any reason why you pulled me over?"

They'll say "Yea, we caught over the limit on the radar"

You - "Can I see the reading please?"

They come back with the radar

Ask them but don't be smart (pull this one out if you think you weren't speeding because it won't work if you just did 140)

"When was the last time this radar was calibrated or checked?"

They are supposedly check or needs checking so often...

    Somebody else wanna input here?

I always ask if the ky comes free with the ticket, then bend over.

Best to let the rodgering go along as smoothly as possable - stiches are a bitch after curry.

    Input?
    Yep.

I've had people complain because I never asked why they were speeding - true.

Calibration etc - I tell them they'll get that with full disclosure if they are going to plead not guilty (I HAVE at the odd time shown them the calibration cert and log-book - most just look at it blankly and go 'oh'.

I have given a ticket when I have inadvertantly bumped the control and deleted the speed reading.

The majority I pull over decline to look at the speed I tell them is on the radar read-out.

Never worried whether anybody admits they are speeding or otherwise.

Overall I would've accepted getting a speeding ticket of course, but would've been just hacked off due to the dumb area with it's changing limits and the fact that I'm sure most of the people around were doing the same speed!

Hah! NICE bit of luck! last time I got asked to look at the radar, it showed 160! ...in a 100 zone. At least I'd stopped as soon as I saw the lights go on. Meant I only got done for exceeding 100... ...and there was another cop a few K's up the road...

Only time I ever got OFF a ticket was just after I'd moved down to Wellington - I was flatting in Ohiro Road (down hill from Brooklyn), mid winter, bike (GSX1100) had been getting parked outside, and was freezing (literally - pour water on the tank to melt the ice, and it would just re-freeze again). Been leaving for work in near-darkness, and arriving home after dark, so didn't really know where the speed limit signs were. Pulled out of flat, clicked second, cough, cough, BWRRRAAAP around corner, and there's a radar pointed at me. Got me for 70k in a 50... The best part was - about three or four days later, pulled out BEHIND a (MOT in those days) cop car, who was following another car up same stretch of road - at 70! ...and he didn't pull the car over!
So I kept repeating the cops rego number all the way to work, then wrote it down. Wrote in to MOT, explaining I was new to area, and didn't realise exactly where speed limits were - and if an officer could make the same mistake - why shouldn't I be allowed to as well?
Got a brief letter back saying "they would not be prosecuting me in this case...".

Some one should try the Jedi mind control trick

"This isnt the motorcycle you're looking for"

"this isnt the motorcycle we're looking for"

    "You can go now"

    "you can go now"

or does it only work when Alec Guinness does it?
