Vmax is for people who can't make up their mind whether to have a cruiser or a sports bike :P

I look forward to seeing what you do to it.
Will be a rather long time before I do anything significantly noticeable. Just working on changing all the bolts to chromed ones now, and replacing two with anchor point rings.

some would say the same about those on japaharleys as well: bikes for those who cant afford a Harley.
They might also say the same about Buells: sportsbikes with a cruiser engine, neither one nor the other... (better IMHO)

    Congrats on the new ride

$20,000.. no problem - just do a lot of overtime. Up for a pay rise in the next two months as well. Give me a year or two. Still renovating my house also.
Some like the old loud clunk of the older designed engine haha.

My Dad did some work for a company based in both Taiwan and New Zealand. Working with their engineers, one thing he learned was that they were very good at taking existing technology, reverse engineering it, and replicating it in their own products. They even TOLD him that much.

Where they fell down, in their own opinion and that of my Father's, was that they weren't quite as good at making brand new technologies - new circuit designs, innovative techniques etc.

I'm sure that's a horrid generalisation, but when it comes from the horses mouth of people whose business is to know how to utilise different engineers from different countries... it makes you think.

Translation: i'm sure the Japaharleys are an excellent imitation of a harley. What I wouldn't want to buy would be a bike from an asian market that has no history of reliability and consistency in its design.

Some of the asian replications are VERY good, in not just motorcycles. The difference between the really good and the ok is the quality control. Some companies just patch stuff together and you might get a brillant product from them and the next one off the line isn't worth the metal its made from.

Well, I'm having trouble with my bike.

I've done the muffler mod found here

    http://www.magnariders.com/html/TipT...k_Muffler.html

Only difference is I didn't open up the end and put a wider pipe in, I left the standard one already on there. From most remarks on their forums, this would cause no real problems in terms of the engine starting.

However, the bike wont start at all now. Can get it to maybe fire a single piston once but it wont take. Have tried the choke, tried giving some throttle, and have fiddled with the idle rev knob. No luck.

Ermm... this sounds a bad thing to me.

Given that I have zero mechanical motorbike knowledge or skill, I wouldn't know how much trouble this spells for you.

Is this going to mean lots more fiddling, or forking out the cash for an aftermarket muffler?

dude , playing with the pipes , i read the mods on the site quoted above , sounds like you have lost back pressure and the mixture is now wrong, possible the timing as well , i hope you do not need to rejet the carbs, i,m sorry that you did all that work to find that the bike will not run

Just a bit frustrating. There is nothing on that website that says anyone had trouble with the bike not starting at all. When you compare it to the original mod, mine should have less air flow since I didn't put on the wider end bit.

Going to check the spark plugs tommorrow.

So far I've checked the fuses, coolant, battery (freshly charged one), and idle rev knob.
