There is a bit of grit at the Gebbies end, and some water too, but not too bad. I was up there on Sunday. Pig of a road inho-hard to read and get a fast flow on-could be a reflection of my skills level though.....
Not every road resembles Ruapuna Race Track and so not every road can be ridden fast, if you go in with the mind set of trying to ride the Summit Rd fast then you could be disappointed most of the time and yes then it will seem like a pig of a road.
Chill out, back off, stop trying so hard and find the flow slower than you're used to, then it may become enjoyable for you all too... or not, I don't know, but I still did enjoy the Summit from on board my CBR1000F and VF1000f when I had them too. It's just a road that requires a little more thought, patience, and self control.

Fair call, fair call. I did however just buy an RGV, so the closer to a track surface, the better!![]()
I think the word we're all looking for is cruisy...![]()
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

I won't be going tonight due to other commitments, so my comments on the Summit Road are irrelevant!
It sounds like it might be worth doing sometime, but i might go pootle over it by myself first to get a feel for it so if I have to go really slow I won't feel like a dick holding anyone up.

Close... we really want a womanAND a motorbike.
Im looking at the weather and I think if the clouds stay away Diamond Harbour could be a better ride.
I get the impression that some of you arnt very comfitable with doing the Summit Road and I can understand why. And this is supposed to be a newbie friendly ride. The last thing we need is someone panicing and having a crash while we are up there (just thinking of myself here, a crash -any crash- would ruin my night).
Reguardless of what we do though I think that once this wind goes away its going to be one cracker ride tonight.
It's not the worst road, but perhaps more suited to a dual sport than a road bike these days! It's also a little too popular with the boy racer set for my liking.
Yea it would suck if we came apon one of their ilk. Bloody idiots the lot of them.
Well, they're no more idiotic than us I suspect... but, they like to take all their suspension travel out, and that road is shitty with blind corners... don't want one bunny hopping their way round a corner semi out of control to wipe us out. That could of course happen anywhere though. I prefer up Dyers Pass Road, and then right at the Kiwi, along to the staircase, then either on to Akaroa, or on to Diamond Harbour.
So whats the weather going to do tonight, I thought I might pop along for the ride.
If that wind holds up she will be fun round hte port hills!!!!
awwww heck, another big black cloud coming our way trying to dampen yet another Wednesday, and the wind, what's with all the dam wind. I'm starting to wonder if we should expect a summer full of big wind days.
Maybe seeking shelter down in the bays isn't such a bad idea.

I'm always keen for a strop to Diamond Harbour, one of my favourite rides... up over Dyers Pass Road, down the other side (careful of the road works), through Teddington and on around to D/H. You can of course turn off at the sign of the Kiwi and do it that way... but I don't find that part of Gebbies Pass that much fun and as I've mentioned before I'm not a big fan of the Summit Road, esp. for a newbie friendly ride. If we take it at a newbie friendly pace (read, much more cruisy than usual), I don't reckon it'd be a problem... if the wind wasn't so strong at the moment. Bah!
Meh, I'll be showing up to BK anyways, so if anyone wasnts to come and lurk down there with me I'll be happy to teach you the finer points of lurking...![]()
