Norf Welly Massif Preview SCS Rnd 5

Well People, the last weekend of the month is upon us and that means it's time to head to Brooklyn's Slipway Driving Facility for round five of the six round SCS Promotions Bucket and Motard Championship.

The Norf Welly Massif has been busy building and fettling many fine racing machines at the Skunk Works Elite Bucket Factory in preparation for the weekends racing. Two new machines will possibly make their debut, whilst many machines have undergone significant development with the arrival of new mid season parts.

The return of the Wellington contingent who missed round four whilst repesenting NWM at the Battle of the Buckets TT will see a strong field line up at the narrow tarmac circuit on Sunday. Bayden Sprozen , series promoter and all round large chinned good guy has been showing good form since his return to competition on his all Suzuki GS/RGV winning the last race in the rain and clutch problem aside (start of the year at the funday, no seriously good start) will be one to watch. Saxet also on an all Suzuki Machine currently lies second overall with 126 points and has been one of the most consistant finishers this year with two wins and two podiums, Saxet currently trails Sully60 by 18 points and is in a good position at this stage of the championship.

Sully60 has also done some develoment and after the last round and has made some improvements to eliminate the oil control issues experienced in the last round which prevented him getting a higher placing in the second wet race and further opening up his points lead.

Richard Ban may also return with his extremely quick Piaggio ET4 190cc machine. Although not strictly legal by MNZ rules this machine is a welcome addition to the field. It interesting to watch and listen to this machine it's deep exhaust note and relatively constant engine speed is in contrast to the frantic gear changes and high pitched bucket racers.

Ivan and his brother William are making the pilgramage over the Rimutaka's. Ivan's riding the Nathan Sargent CBR150 which is one of the fastet forur stoke machines to have raced at the slipway, William will be riding an MB100.

Fi5hy and Masterchop who raced at the mid season funday may also return on their GL145 derivertive powered ZXR and GSXR respectively. Fi5hy showed impressive pace at the funday and managed to catch and pass F5Dave who has the most race wins and has been fastest all series but his absence for the GP and TT meetings means he only lies third on 75 points.

Mudboy lies fourth in the standings on 65 points, an impressive feat as this is his first full race season and he's riding a stock RG50.
Skunk is another rider returning from the TT. In between time he's been extremely busy overseeing and executing many of the projects currently underway at the Skunk Works and may be debuting the new incarnation of his ZXR. Not content with his own two bikes he has also prepared "Purple Death" Suzuki for yet another TT raider Sketcy_Racer who will be competeing in his first points round at the slipway.

Slingshot will be making his second race apperance on Sunday, showing good speed in the wet conditions of the last round only technical gremlins prevented a good result, Slingshot will be looking for a better result this weekend.

So there you have it folks, racing on Sunday gets underway at 12.30.
If you do come up and are interested to give it a go please ask one of the competitors, most are more than happy to let you have a go and we make time for learner and first timers to have a go on the track by themselves, so it nice and safe. You will need proper riding gear (helmet gloves boots and sturding clothing minimum)

Look forward to seeing you all there, come up and say hello, I'm the one on # 60.

I can't farken wait...I'm going to spend more time sitting quietly with Frank on Saturday to prepare mentally. I might even clean the spark plug.

    I'm getting excited.

Sully...can you bring that turkey baster to the track?

Weather forecast is looking pretty good for Sunday too.

I'll crack out the electrical tape and bring the slow-tard. Hopefully less than 3 others will show up and I'll get a podium..

This is pretty cool to watch people, come on down.

Yip, that's exactly where it is. It was an old airstrip, now it's a racetrack!! It's signposted, but only with little signs that say Slipway.

Does anyone have space to take me and the bike out to the track on Sunday? Turns out my wife needs the car in the morning and then she's going to bring the car and trailer up to the slipway in the afternoon but if I could get a ride their in the morning it would be choice.

    *sigh*

I wish I'd printed this out as well as my bleeding Google map -- I remembered "signposted from Ashton Kutcher" and then spent half an hour sliding around on those roads up there like an eejit. Still, nice view from up by that golf-ball, and a strange isolated Spanish castle protected by rabid dogs is always fun to see.

We got there in the end (would have been sooner with these excellent directions) and it was well worth it. Weather was fine and it was good fun watching people variously tear up the track or their leathers -- how many times did those arse-out boxers change rider?

Looked like everyone was having a blast and we certainly had fun watching. My son was pleased to see his instant favourite "Superfish" elbow his way to the front of the first points race and keep it there, although he seemed to forget which one that was from lap to lap. He was peeved that we had to leave, but the little one was starting to get mardy. We'll come again next time, hopefully.

If you're who I think you are, Sully, you took second in the first points race, but came close as to getting spat off coming out of the final corner?

Good fun watching that. Pity we turned up for half of Limbim's first lap and he chucked it. Woops. That scooter sounded like it had something special underneath.
