Woo Hoo. Swapped days and now will be there Friday and Saturday nites.
Come and ride the Southern Roads with us.
Write-up in todays Southland Times on the MATES rally.
Personally thought the Waikaia site was top-notch, you guys lucky enough to be going this weekend will have to let me know how good the new site is. (sounds TOO close to the 'goron' environment for me)
Call in at Chez Scumdog en route if you want - working nights so AFTER 11am would be good.

A great days ride South as we rode into the sun. The day ride turned into a Day pass on the rally site where you pay the full entry fee but if out by 7pm you get half your money back but no badge. That suited me this time. So lots of entertainment, comraderie and laughs on a beautiful afternoon. KBer's sighted were NH, Xaria, Daffyd & son, Woodybee (did I miss anyone?)
A very enjoyable rally, good company, good music, (if a little loud), and GREAT food. Good to see xknuts made the day trip down. Finished off today with a ride round some of the back roads between Gore and Edendale with NH, Xaria, and Haydn (son). Parted company with Haydn at Edendale, and NH, Xaria and I headed back to my place via Wyndham (including a lap of the Burt Munro street circuit), Glenham, Fortrose and the Southern Scenic route for coffee before they carried on home. A beautiful sunny Southland day for a ride.
The good thing about that road is that when you get there you want turn round and do it all over again!

Me and Xaria rode down on the Friday after work, in the wind and the rain showers… being only showers the continuing wind dried the roads out pretty quick. We simply came down state one, wanted to get there pretty quick and set up camp, which happened with out incident.
The new site, well since I can’t comment on the old site, the new one has heaps of room, and was setup great, using one of the implement sheds as a full on café, (with tables and chairs and was pretty well thought out)
Saturday morning, me and Xaria went for a small ride, did a geocache and then round the block over some gravel roads and back to the site for the afternoon activities. Xaria entered the tractor pull, they had all the normal stuff, burnouts, they had a cherry picker which they raise so you could take photos, couple of microlites, Band, Wet T, and apparenty some entertain of similar sorts for the ladies, prizes, photo shots with some babes on bikes and lawd knows what else...
Had a good frost over night, and had to wait for the tent and bikes to defrost in the morning, (they both started with no issue the next morning.) Xaria, Daffyd and his son Haydn and I went for a ride round the back block and down to Endendale. I rode Haydn’s Beull and he took the VTR… Swaping back Haydn parted the group while DaffyD took the lead, through to Wyndham around the Burt Munroe track and on to the Southern Scenic Route through the Catlins and coffee in the sun before heading up to Balclutha for fuel and on to Scumdogs for another coffee and chat.
Leaving Tom’s we heading home up State 1 home with out incident. Over all a good rally and a great day and ride home. Thanx to Haydan for the ride on his beull, Daffyd and Tom & CB for their hospitality.
photos to come soon...
Had a brilliant weekend. Met up with some KB lurkers - you know who you are.
Riding down on Friday was... interesting. At least I can now mark off rain / wind off my checklist. We got there in the end though. Had an interesting time putting up the tent though, so we realigned the fly and all was good.
Met up with a couple of poms in the marquee who are travelling NZ for 6 months. NH decided to harass them with the camera for the next wee while, for an absolute surprise to anyone who has ever met him. Met up with a lurker - Billy Boy who is a lovely man who will actually dance, so NH got off very lightly there.
Saturday we went for a coffee and ride to get a cache. Even with a GPS I shouldn't really be the one to navigate. Practiced my U - turns a few times.
Sunday rode home. It was so weird to see NH on the wrong bike. Decided the scenic route in the Catlins was... interesting. Had coffee and a play with the dogs at Daffyds and then more coffee at Scumdogs. And got home just in time to fall asleep. So a great weekend which I really must repeat.
Come and ride the Southern Roads with us.
Glad you had fun. Bloody bike is heading to the automotive electrican this afternoon - pity the problem didnt pop up last week or I might have made it!
