    Where's the dollar?

A dishwasher cost $60.00 three sisters said they would go thirds in it and paid $20 each. The sale person said no problem will get it delivered.

The delivery guy picks up the dishwasher, and the sale person says he made a mistake and the dishwaher was on sale and was only $55.00. The sales person gave the driver $5.00 and asked to give it to the 3 sisters.

The driver thought hmm how am I to split this, so he decided to give them a $1.00 each and keep $2.00 for himself.

    So my question is this.

$60.00 for the orginal sale. $20.00 each

The driver gives them a $1.00 each meaning they only paid $19.00 each

    $19 x 3 = $57
    $57 + $2 (drivers $2) = $59

    Where is the other dollar?

57 MINUS 2 = 55 which is what they paid for it

There is no extra dollar. Not so much of a math riddle, more of a logic riddle, how you look at it kind of riddle

Another way to look at it is there is $60 in play.

Dishwaser Co has $55 of it, gave $5 to the driver ($60)
Sister 1 got back $1 of the $5 from the Driver
Sister 2 got back $1 of the $5 from the Driver
Sister 3 got back $1 of the $5 from the Driver
    driver kept $2

    55 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 60

    Oh no, not again...

    There are several flaws:

Realistic retail prices would be $59.99 and $54.99.
The delivery guy would have kept all $5 - no problem.
There are no honest salespeople, they would also have kept the $5 - no problem.

However, if the 3 sisters had paid $19 each then they would have paid a total of $57. If $55 of these had gone to the dishwasher there would indeed have been $2 left for the driver.

But let's play along... You can even make $2 disappear: Say that the discounted price was $56 and the driver is given $4 to hand back. He gives back $1 to each girl - 3x$19+$1=$58... WTF?!?
Or he keep all four for himself... 3x$20+$4=$64... now this is much smarter since now we're actually MAKING money!!!

If the sisters had been smart they would have used a finance company so that when it tips over they get an extended free credit period before the receivers step in!
