    Gah! I'm a noob

hey there everyone, this is my 1st post so lets see how it goes,

my incredibly easy answer question today is, i have a zxr250 a1 and i would like to know which style of bulb i need to buy for the front lights, eg h1, h4 etc.

my second question is, my bikes been restricted to 33 brake, im guessing its only a washer in the carb that theyve added, does this sound right?

3rd question, does anyone know if the front exhaust on the 250, is going to be the same as the 400, i would expect not, but from what ive noticed quite a lot of stuff for 400's will also work on the 250, many thanks chris

Stare into the headlight lens, (while the light is OFF!) it will be written on there around the base of the bulb. Your bike should be new enough that the front lens is clear so you can see thru. Two filaments and a metal plate in the same bulb is H4, if you have one bulb that does hi + lo 99% it's H4 but the odd bike / car have a thing that moves the bulb. Call a shop and ask how much one is for your bike and give them the info. When they give you the price ask them what kind it is too? Cheeky but effective.

Is that done by some vehicle compliance engineers in the UK to comply with licensing laws? Only a pom would be able to answer that I think as our laws do not restrict HP.

Yea, ya gotta have light to be able to read the writing, sheesh.

Not sure if it may just be a washer in the carb to deristrict it, but it's the probably most common method.

The "M" is for metric, ie, M12 = metric 12mm (width). There are variations in pitch but most are the same, you normally need to go hunting for funny ones. Like anything, Start it by hand until it's a good way on and your 100% it's not cross theaded or the wrong pitch. If you have one of the right bolts you can find a nut that fits it and then take that as your bolt tester or lay them next to each other so the threads mate up and see with your eye that they fit spot on. The lenght won't matter so much as long as they are on a reasonable amount and the end doesn't hit anything or catch wires etc (check by flexing the fairings too).

cheers cakes, when i was lookin across ebay for a fairing kit, i also came along this, now as far as i know, when they made the a1 model, the only restrictions in place were in the air filter and the speed and rev limiter, so im guessing this lil black box, will actually do nothing, if not take hp down?

yeh so any opinions?? ive already bought one of those "piggy back" or plug and play ignition advancers, im thinking the unit i have now would make more hp and less damage to the engine in long run, any comments? chris

I don't have the experience to tell you or the tools to test it for you. Tune, dyno, install, tune and dyno is really the only way and that will set you back twice what it would cost you to sell your bike and buy a 400/600 so the unit is cheap and who knows. BTW, the ol' seat 'o' the pants dyno is not just innacurate it quite often tells you something is faster when it's SLOWER! Smooth tuning doesn't feel fast. Put a flat spot in the low/mid revs of the same bike and lots of people (especially once they've shelled out for a "go fast" bit) will interpret the feeling as more midrange as the power comes back on. I'd be talking to RT or HDTboy etc to see what they can do with the std gear on your bike or how much an upgrade would be. Nice ride and good tyres is where it's at.

But if you want to do it it could be a fun experiment.
