Round the Big Block 08

Time to go for a decent one day ride, one that encampasses some of the best roads in the country if not the world.
For your riding pleasure may I introduce: The Block (anticlockwise route)

I reckon early January, say Saturday the 5th? (I'm back to work on the 3rd otherwise I would have suggested that) and wet or fine (maybe).

Will mean a crack of dawn start...and don't expect to be home in time for dinner..

How many masochists have we got? (I know you're out there as I can think of at least two you...)

The plan looks good.. me would have to say I am in... dont think I have anything on then. No shutdown at work for me, or ay holidays at this stage. But alas should be able to work it.
Yeah so what.... we do the run clockwise.... then get home, and turn right round and do an anti???

I am guessing that is for another bright sunny day.

So who are the other two you are thinking of that will be in??

Would deff need some care

after a ride like this... no mater the seat.. serious numbess would set in.

Oh imagine the pain on this one, would make for a great two dayyer

I could be in and a little rain will not put me off.
After all we may get it on one side of the Alp's.

I have done 920 K's in a day so should be up for it with a few gas stops to get the numbess out of fingers and ass.

I think that we should put as many k's behind us at the start as it is going to get harder and harder at the end.
And like you said a early start will be good
And will help us before the traffic builds up.

I like your thinking there young man, that would be great for mid/late February. Have to go clockwise though.

If we don't have a nor'wester blowing then she'll be all good. Even if we do it'll only be wet for half the ride. Its all good.

Im keen for this-its the long rides i like best,especially in one day.I will be on holiday and as long as the Boss lady lets me go.
No surcharges on this trip is there?

So Mr S. that's half way between all the 1000km rides and all the 1600km rides. Seems to be a bit of an odd distance.
I'm doing the 1000km mostly shingle Dusty Butt ride that weekend so am unable to attend.
Maybe next time, although 1000km is close to my limit, the bum hurts more on big sealed road trips than big shingle trips..

This is NOT a trip for commuter bikes nor for highly strung two strokes.

Yeah maybe. The distance is purely incidental to the route, which had to take in Lewis Pass, the entire Buller Gorge, and the entire length of the West Coast road. Best of luck with your DB ride TA.
