ZXR 250.... how do i bypass the hose from the carbs that goes to the airbox?

on my zxr 250a there is a hose from the carbys to the top of the airbox...which is like a vacuum / suction hose....the problem ive got is i want to put a pod filter on each carby. but i know if you take the hose off it runs like crap because it has an airleak from the hose being off...but if you block it off the bike will not rev over 8 k

i could just put the pod filters inside the airbox...but that sucks lol

the only thought i have had is to hook the hose with a t section hose splitter and put it onto one of the intake manifold vacuum hoses (that goes to the fuel tap to vacuum it open to let fuel flow through the main fuel line...

do any of you know how to bypass using this hose...? it's driving me nuts knowing i cant put pod filters on cus if this silly hose...and it's been rejectted rich enough for the aftermrket muffler and poddys... so it runs like crap..and no way in hell i wanna muck around with jets again.... because i want poddys...more air = go faster yup yup yup...

    cheers in advance : mark

At least you've got 6 months to work it out eh! Bonus!

Is it the vaccum advance or what? get crafty with a T junction and plumb it in? You'll lose more torque than you'll make extra power with naked pods. Get an insert for your airbox.

Yeah cos for $30 each they'll be shit Mark. Get a washable panel filter and customise the 'box to fit.

Wouldnt it be better to make the box larger to get more air? Dont pod's restrict the airflow in a way, making the choke point closer to the carbs (thus less air between them and the carbs which can be used) or did i completely misunderstand that/it only really applies to the big twins and the big gulps of air they take in (read on tlzone)

He's a boy racer Squiggles. He wants Pod filters and induction noise at the expense of power/rideablilty.

They really are tuned well from factory on most bikes. Look at cars too, all the funny shapes etc hanging off the induction, looks pretty deliberate eh Mark?

An airbox is normally tuned so after a cyclinder takes it's share there is a slight vaccum, the vaccum causes air to be sucked into the box and air (as viewed from a fluid dynamics perspective) has mass. The airbox ends up with some positive pressure just at the right time for the valve to open. Real similar to gasses cooling/contracting in a scavenging exhaust system. In the case of Marks bike it's fairly revvy so the inlets and stroke are probably suited to high rev power and the intake and pipe are tuned to add mid. He may (probably will) make more top end with Pods and pipe (as the jets have been done) but will have a hole in the mid range and as it's a 250 will be a P.O.S. to ride.

Mark how did you get the jets right BEFORE the mods were done? You don't even know what filters your getting yeat and as you sound like your not spending much they'll be paper shit ones. If your making a race bike (low K's, non-road use) why don't you leave the box and run no filter?

Go for a bigger/modified airbox mark. I was guna do a pod conversion a few years back and had my bike rejetted etc. Every single person I asked said do not do it. Causes endless problems and she will never run right. I know a guy with a bike like mine that did the pod conversion. We have exactly the same mods bar the intake (I have a bigger DNA out of a GSX1400) and my bike uses less gas, goes faster, has more torque and never misses a beat.

Wana go faster? Wait till you have your full and buy a bigger bike. Easy

    Not necessarily so....
More air - without more fuel = lean = meltdown
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

And stop driving that work truck, you look dodgy and are bound to get stopped. For your own sake. A judge would love to go to town on you I bet and with your record and driving while disqualified. Life will be worse not better.

You can do pod filters, but no one will be able to see them. What about a coby muffler instead?
