I know they are designed and built in Italy - but in what city??
I read it once but can't remember and can't google it.
Think it starts with 'A'![]()

It's fun. It's also interesting.
The speedo doesn't quite go to 65 but the scoot does. Either it has been deregulated or the speedo is wildly optimistic. I will ask Nadroj about that when he gets back because the SJ50 has similar engine performance to his Jog.
The poor little thing surprised me the way it gallops up hills even with my fat arse on it.
There is a bridge on the way home from work and I was worried how to get to that before the cars if the lights were red and I had a standing start.
I think I've figured it out, I stop 10m or so in front of the cars. I need an edge :-)
The brakes are crap. The front has a really powerful squeal but doesn't do much to retard progress. Nadroj's Jog has a front disc that's brilliant in comparison.
Of course other motorists are more prone to completely ignore you. I had a guy look at me the other day then just drove straight into the piece of road I was using. I had to brake to avoid him. He was in a Budget Rentals ute, and you always have to watch out for rental trucks and utes, but even so.
The parcel tray is very handy and would be a good place to put my .45![]()

I have the exact same comments about my SJ50.
The braking on the front isn't good.
Yes, the speedo is *very* optimistic, I borrowed a handheld gps unit off a friend. Max speed was 61kph standard (but unrestricted) on the GPS unit. The speedo meantime was pegged off the end of the dial completely. 60k on the speedo needle related to 54-55k on the gps unit.
I'd suggest a variator and roller change, as I did that to mine, and it now does 70 and there's absolutely no loss of performance on the hills. Plus, you can hardly hear the engine at 50k it's so lovely and quiet.
I've never even heard of a variator let alone thought of buying one :-)
The basic job of this wee beastie is to get to work and back so I think I'll stick to buying things it needs.
Thanks for your comments on the brakes you may have saved me from a visit to the workshop to pay for new shoes or whatever. We'll see.
Thinks : Is a variator anything like a flux capacitor?

Apparently www.scootling.co.nz do replacement front brake shoes that are better for the SJ.
It's a lot like a flux capacitor, only you go forward in time rather than backwards in time. Most people change them when they change the blinker fluid and muffler bearings.
Basically it's just putting a bigger cog on the front, so you get a taller gear ratio. I'd really recommend it, as it really does help with making it all happen more quietly, plus it means you can actually use 70k zones without playing "dodge the Commodore".
Yeah, they seem to attack scoots even more than they do a M/c, eh?
I've taken to leaving my h/lamp on high beam and that has helped heaps in gaining that bit more 'respect'.
Re brake and engine performance - the Dylan, although a bit more expensive, does not give away anything in those areas. Heading out of town yesterday on the ST and I couldn't help thinking - give me the scoot any day for riding in this traffic............![]()
