    Question VMoto Monza (vs Keeway?)

    Hi.
Haven't quite got round to purchasing a scooter yet, but looking for the usual advice on the product. Have searched the forums and found some mixed reports about the different scooters.

I'm looking for probably a 50cc (only got car licence) and thought the Monza was looking promising. Any thoughts on it? Reliability? First parts to break? Do they breakdown? Life expectancy?

Also looked at a Keeway Matrix 50. $1995 + onroad costs with 12 mnth warranty. Took it for a ride, but haven't had a chance to compare it to the Monza yet.

Only Hound M/cycles dealing in VMoto in Chch I think.

Anyone know anything about Keeway? Good? Bad? Otherwise?

    Thanks.

    Hi ScooterMac

Whereabouts are these "Keeway" scooters made. Are they Chinese?

If built in China, I would suggest your answer should be "run away"

Stick with Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki etc.

Having bought a new Suzuki, I'd probably given the option of time travel, go back in time and actually buy an older Honda Aprio. They go like beasts (in as far as 50cc goes).

Buy a used Italian scoot, you could ride it for a year and still sell for not much off what you'll pay for it.

Agreed or If you HAVE to buy new the best of the 2 Grand scooters is the Yamaha Jog...
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

The stuff that Hound sells are OK but nothing great. All the vmoto stuff is manufactured in China (medium-poor build quality) and partly designed in Australia.

Although Italian scooters keep their resale value, their high price plus the chance of crashing/writing it off tend to negate this.

    Thanks

Thanks for the feedback team. No decisions yet other than to take more time to look around at the options. (I still like the styley looks of the Monza tho

I had a look at a Keeway cruiser (yeah I know, bigger that what you want) but my gods, it was scarey.

It had many rusted nuts and bolt heads, including the steering head bolt.

The screw holding the headlight in, snapped off when I flicked it with my finger.

This bike had been out of the box less than a month, and was not yet registered for road use - scared the shit out of me to think someone might actually buy it.

So yeah, like good safety gear, stay the hell away from 'cheap' because what you save on a good bike, will only be spent on your hospital stay or funeral.

They are still made in China with low build quality as per Donor's words:

On a recent expedition putting bits of paper on motorcycles, I was saw many vMoto scooters. I did think the design of said scooters was quite cute in appearance, but the amount of rust was pretty sad. Especially on the exhaust. I know wellington gets a lot of salty breeze, but they really were not holding up well.

Sad thing is, the looks of the Japanese scooters arn't nearly as cute the vMoto ones.

Since you live in Christchurch, don't buy the vmoto - the NZ distributor thinks you South Island types are ignorant inbreds (according to Campbell Live last night)
