    Music license download problem

I want to listen the music I have on my pc. I can't because it says -

The license cannot be downloaded because the license has already been downloaded 10 times.
For more information about protected files and license migration, see the Windows Media Player FAQ page.
How do I get around this? It's pissing me off! I just want to listen to my music.

Use btjunkie to find an unprotected copy of the music you want.

Ahh, the wonderous new age of DRM. Here's the thing see: According to Bill and the industry, it's not your music, it's theirs, and you should be grateful you got to listen to it even once let alone multiple times whenever you want.

Plug in a tape recorder... play song and record on tape... use tape in cage

When ripping music with Windows Media Player, the first time you do it, it comes up with "enable copy protection" (or something similar) make sure that you don't, then you'll be free to share with as many people you like.

As for the stuff already protected.... don't know sorry.

You ring Microsoft. You bitch and whine like there's no tomorrow. You remind them that the braindead DRM scheme causing you (and now, them) pain is called "Plays for Sure". Tell everyone you know what utter tosspots they are.

It won't make the music play but it does mean that you've done your part to ensure this stupid DRM crap never rears it's ugly head again.

I must thank you all for your crass and unhelpful answers... The reality appears to be; re-download the music that I have (unprotected)

Hmmm I maybe wasn't clear that I did not want to have to re-download vitually all the music I have... again....
I had thought that perhaps someone with your volumous computorial knowledge (and cooking skills....) would have been able to suggest a far less labourious solution... i.e "Just download "X" programme and it will unlock everything for you..."

Obviously I have over estimated you....

Fine then. if you want to be angry. Get on a plane, go find Bill Gates. Hug him like he's never been hugged before. He will then create such a program.

Seriously, welcome to the world of online music, and the massive fuck around that is copyrighting. If you find that program, tell us all.

PS You HAVE tried downloading other music players?

Did you buy it? Ring them and bitch and whine. I'm serious on this point. They need to learn.

Did you rip it? Well, there y'go then. A piece of technology designed to reward theft with irritation has worked.

Do you still have it as CD's? Install iTunes, use that to rip it.

Unfortunately some very bright bunnies worked very hard to prevent that from being simple. Not impossible, mind, but hard. I have no idea how you'd go about doing it mind you because I ripped all my stuff to MP3's from the outset. And remember the simple rule: If it says "Microsoft" on it, it's probably a very bad thing.
