lols it's simple to get stuck into them just like a big meccano set. Just depends on how far you want to go or how far you need to go.
Should dig up some pics of when I've had to dig into the guts of things on previous bikes.

I figure it would be easy to take it apart .. the problem will be a) recognising any issues b)putting it all back together again .. Mechanic stuff definately not my strong point .. now choccy cake is another story

I think Betsy deserves to be put to full former glory again .. (only if she stops being a stripper & throwing her bits away)

If your methodical in taking them apart then reassembly is easy, Identifying issues is best done via a manual which give the parameters of wear limits etc. Though when you've done a few & do it for a job you get to know bits & pieces right away.

might have a lead on some possible panels for Betsy too, and yeah she's an appreciating classic so worth a bit of treatment.

Brakes are good now. Front brake is better - still not that great but that's more shortcomings on what it is than the condition of it - rear brake is average I reckon, though I've been trying not to use it as much lately, and use the front instead. Otherwise all is good. New rear tyre is becoming nicely scrubbed, could probably use another blat out to Godley House though to be totally ready....

70/30 front/rear my friend the rear is just a stabiliser to keep things in check when needed.

Well a small update and a small dilemma

To break the bland silver of the bodywork I'm in tow minds as to what to do the 2 pics below have caught my eye particularly the red/silver minus the fairing, but in reverse with red panels on the silver base.

Haven't done a lot to "Filthy" with getting sidetracked with bits for the ZXR and also copping a dose of the bloody flu

Though being sidetracked was good as I managed to fit a new clutch kit into the ZXR as she'd grown a nasty slip at 8500-9000rpm so new plates and springs have solved that
And a nice new set of front springs & seals arrived today for it too been getting sick of blowing seals over the last couple of years, unfortunately an Achilles heal of H1-H2 ZXRs

Well Filthy is a runner albeit until the R/H switch block decided to throw a hissy-fit, the internals were pretty shabby so she died a natural sorted out a replacement one so when that arrives she'll be getting close to her end of time in the shed.
Still sporting some conflicting emotions over what to do with the fairing & colour scheme, but will work on that

Though today Filthy got a new room mate
Picked up a GPX400 I got off TM just as a wee side earner to play with.
it's an 88 model with 30089kms, 4 owners, live plates etc for $500+pocket money.
Runs quite well, though has a bit of a miss between 5-7g but below & beyond that point is crisp and clean, also idles cleanly. It wicks around to 160 in reasonable time and for a 400 has a sweet induction noise and throaty exhaust note. It's got a bank of K&N pods on it which may be part of the miss issue, but it's nothing I can't sort out.
Has a fresh battery and new rear tyre too. All the electrics work how they should and the exhaust is original with only a couple of minor grazes. The guy stated in the auction that the fairing had been damaged and probably wasn't repairable, but upon seeing it , it's all there and the L/H side panel has been cracked clean in two and a few cracks in other places so nothing a bit of time & effort won't fix

anyhow a couple of pics

How about a XN85-style striping on the bike? a bit of red'n'orange should do the trick.

The GPZ is getting a top to bottom going over in the next couple of weeks and may or may not be seen a few rallies coming up then by the end of March I'll be jumping back onto a litre plus mount and keeping the ZXR for terrorising the local roads
