    Lake Wairarapa - some pics

I have met two regular local Riders lately that have never been around the western side of lake Wairarapa! So doing my early morning circuit today I took a few pictures for those unaware of what beauty we have on our Wellytown doorstep.
I really enjoy a slow cruise on the western road soaking up the scenery and few remaining bush areas.
No point trying to play racer around here. To nice to disturb the peace and quite. Also it's very narrow, almost single lane in places and a local drag strip for milk tankers and stock trucks - the big Mac specials that you really don't want to play chicken with.

It's also popular with cyclists so slow down and enjoy the bush - while you can!

These first pictures are of an area about to be ruined by developers. Bloody nice point reaching out into the lakeside will soon be an ugly spralling mess of lifestylers. These views (1 & 2) are only a bit of what will be lost see pic 3.
edit- ignore the date stamp. I can't tell the time and never bother to set it right anyway.

Here's a favourite tree lined stretch where the trees almost make a canopy over the road. The nearest we have to a west coast drive through bush.
3rd pic is one of a few picnic areas.
Shame about the local Bikey blocking the view.

Bugger, might have to exit and reduce the pictures first. Lets try some others.
This is where the lake ends at the southern end at the Barrage. I know it's called a Barrage because some clever dick stuck a plague up to tell me.
Otherwise I would have called it a thingamejig.

Can ya Missus kick you outta bed tomorrow by 8am? Time to do it all again before the midday heat and traffic builds. Just promise Cath that you will mow the lawns when you get back! .. and do the ironing.

Off mtbing tomorrow morning, so I'll be mowing and ironing in the afternoon still, but after being on a different type of 2 wheels. Should be a good day tomorrow too.

Someone should tell that Jim2 idiot to slow down through there. I was following him the other week and he didn't slow down at all, in fact he went faster as the visibility got worse.

That's coz he was going Nudie wasn't it! Off like a streaker with those cylinders at funny angles.

Was that you going up the 'takas on the Katana about 5.45pm while us chook chasers were heading home? If it was at least you waved at me in good KB spirit.

Nice pics too MD. I do like that road too and in those trees in the winter it does get a tad slippery. Back when I had way more hair than you and I'd just bought my VFR and I went on my first ride with Richard Scoular and his mates and we went around that road and that's when my eyes were opened to how fast we were meant to ride on the road. Back then there were no HP cops and no-one seemed too worried about cranking it on, but now for sure we are all leisurely gents huh!
    Cheers

It's good to see regional ratepayers out surveying where their rates go. One day Lake Wairarapa will be a regional park, ftw.
