I'm sorry, no honestly, we'll keep an eye on you, you're probably safer with us for your first group ride than the boys, we won't leave you behind or ride too close behind you because we're trying to get a peek at your bum.
I would suggest riding around home etc a little bit before coming on any of the group rides though, we normally ride over the Rimatakas and that can be a little daunting if you're a bit green.
Where abouts in Welly do you live? Maybe we could hook you up with someone who lives near by to go for a few rides with you until you've got your confidence and skills up a bit.

Have a look at the CBR125R (link) looks the part and will do the around 130kph (not that you wanna do that on the road ). Oh and welcome to KB

Welcome to KB, FXR's are great bikes! We had one for nearly a year. I rode it back from Gisborne where we bought it. SweetP did the KB 1000km ride-in-a-day on hers so they do road trips just fine. They have the greatest dashboard of any bike, especially for learners. Knowing what gear you're in is very useful. So is the fuel gauge - $20K bikes don't even have those

A couple of things to know
- get a brighter headlight bulb
- The speedo's all read +10kmh
- Check the quality of the tyres

I live in brooklyn, so when I finally get a bike i'll probably just ride up and down ohiro rd, until I get some confidence. Then I want to try ride round the bays (ohiro, island, houghton, princes, lyall). The takas sounds quite hard, it'll be a while before I try them but it sounds like fun! Where do the wednesday night rides go?

Your not tiny! You're only 1 cm, and a few kilos less that me. The FXR would be a great first bike, especially for commuting.

I would suggest that you only go out for rides with one or two others to start with. Personally I found it was easier to ride on my own when I was learning. It all gets easier with practice.

I'm in brooklyn too. giz a pm when you get your licence or a bike if you're keen to take a ride round the local bays or similar. would offer my ol' cbx for you to muck round on but she's got a few issues at the moment that would be a pain in the ass if it decided not to start on you

I feel dumb for asking this, but do you need to be able to ride a pushbike to ride a motorbike? I'm pretty hopeless on push bikes due to slightly wonky knees that throw my balance off when trying to pedal, but have good balance otherwise. Also how hard is the basic handling? Can you pass it even if you've never been on a motorbike before?

lol. if you can balance swet as then I guess you could be sweet.
In palmy the basic handling skills thing is done on a step through scooter if you don't take your own bike. I'm sure you've mates that have scooters that you can hammer round on? only need your car licence/learners.
possibly a wise option to check that out before you sink $$$ into a bike?

Yes i am doing the learn to ride, but still worried about it.
Unfortunately none of my friends have scooters or motorbikes that I can muck around on. I am very motivated to learn and a good listener, hopefully this will help with the course, but i'm not so good at actually doing things
