Farewell BMWs - another thumper has arrived

Decided to move on from my Purple People Eater(R1000GS) and say farewell to the R80paris dakar:spudwave:
Absolutely awesome machines that have taken me over many gravel roads and taken me to the most beautiful parts of the South Island.
The low CoG on the beasts are amazing, but there were times if the ride turned a bit rough, and I lost my balance that they were like a diving submarine-I learnt to jump clear pronto!!
Wont elaborate on the cruciate ligament damage and the broken arm....
Wot to get....surely Im too old for this adventure lark?? I love where these bikes can take me,every ride is an adventure. So no...not over it

The new bike was like riding an old friend(had a XL500S in the '80s)but gruntier.Electric start a bonus over kickstarting my old single
Gotta love that simple, capable unadorned bike that is a DR
Shes SDUs old bike & when the mods for a hobbit(sorry Sal!) are sorted ,the fun will begin
Then theres another bike to buy....

Can't wait to see it - you'll have it at the Woodstock won't you?

Or will it be the 'other' bike?

    Congrats on the purchase.
Now that DR still needs a bigger Tank and maybe eventually some decent handguards?
The stock tank holds 13 litres, I have a spare 15 litre one at home if you want to buy it, or generally most of us who upgrade are putting 18.5 liter (actually holds 19.5 litres) tanks on ours from the likes of justgastanks.com.. US$235+freight.
You might like to try out a little screen too. Some people like them, some don't. Janet and I have two slightly different home made jobs on ours, makes a big difference to me on long haul rides.

Thanks Transalper. You guys have posted some great info on DR's which is really helpfull.First bike I've brought without my late brothers guidance,so I appreciate any ideas
Alloy bars & increasing the fuel range are the priority. Then some luggage and I'll see bout a screen.

Yay, no more adventuring on an Edwardian chest of drawers for you!! Bring it 'round when you have a moment, so I can admire....
