If you're still trying to find an easy out (possibly called ezi-out), the last set I got was from Mitre10, though a fair while ago. Repco should also have them, as would Super Cheap (but I'd beware of inferior quality there). Haven't bought any for years, and have lost the set I had, but from memory they weren't overly expensive.
Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam!
I bet your Dad was relieved he didn't have to deal with anything any more serious (Mum woulda killed him!?)
I second that speaking from experience when my son high sided his ninga.
Glad to hear your ok.
if the easy out works properly (ie if you do the job properly) then you won't/shouldn't use a tap - the easyout is only an extension of the original piece anyway. my advice is DON'T use a tap, unless you know 100% what the original screw pitch is, and you have the exact threaded tap.
about what size is the threaded portion (in mm)?
#edit# just re-read the thread. forget the handlebar. get the frame checked for straightness first. could all be a waste of time. an 80k highside is gonna hurt most bikes. terminally. i presume you were insured?

Don't worry about getting the bar out. Mine snapped off too and the replacement clipon comes as one unit (not just the bar).

Really, really good to deal with. Goods arrived fast and he keeps you informed at every step of the shipping process. Even chucked in a bungy luggage net and calendar for free!
