    Calling Chch golfers...

After having had enough of the torment I'm regaining my sanity by resigning from my job. My last day at work is this Friday...

    Which means...

I'm finally free to get out on the golf course again! Only trouble is that I'm a social golfer, so I'd prefer some company so we can talk shit etc while we're out there making the most of a sunny day. Anyone in Chch keen to head out for a round? I'm a pretty casual golfer, don't play very often... so don't worry if you're no good, I'm not either

Millions of people play it - you gonna ask them all what they see in it?

Next career? Well, a career would be a damn good start. I've been working at jobs where there isn't really much chance of going anywhere, moving up in the world etc (such as my current soon to be ended job), so I'd quite like to move into something I can stick with, and that will take me somewhere. A company that can offer me training and support so I don't have to stay at the basic level jobs for all time, that'd be a good start!

Good on you for giving up a crap job.

Perhaps you should try for an electrical apprenticship or do a free course at polytech or something for a career.

Well Mrs Oakie and I could be up for a round if someone else is keen to make up a foursome sometime ... (Oakie waits for inevitable 'foursome' remarks) although scheduling it would be a problem as I play cricket on Saturday and Mrs Oakie works Sunday.
She's just started playing and I've been playing casually for years, probably off a mid 20s handicap.

KB golf day at Ascot or Rawhiti sometime could be a laugh.

What sort of career are you after?

I'd be keen for a round some time. Used to play heaps 10 years ago but only get a couple of rounds a year in now. Last round got 83 at Kaiapoi which wasnt too shabby. Also got free passes to play out there so that helps!

I do like the idea of a KB golf day too!

Well if we do Kaiapoi I have got 2 double seasons tickets that can be used any time we play (4ppl). I am keen for a round one night after work, can squeeze in 12 holes if you get off the tee at 6:30ish.

I dont have a handicap at the moment other than a slice that appears sporatically (sp).

Great, sounds like there are a few keen, works for me! Sounds like you lot are better players than me, but meh, doesn't really worry me too much. I'm pretty casual on the whole - anything under 100 is a good day. I'd probably be a bit better if I played more often, but you know how it is. My best effort was an 82 around Amberly Beach, cracking day that was, usually I don't manage to crack 95 let alone 85

Oakie: Don't necessarily have to have four to make up a playing group, donchaknow Oh, and my weekends are generally pretty busy too - softball on Saturday (though only takes up about two hours), and archery Sunday (though again, only a couple of hours).

Still, all next week I'm free!! Whee, so much fun resigning from my job... might have to do this more often!!

I'm keen to get out for a round on Monday, though I realise most people will be working. Anyone else got the day off and keen for a bit of a hit?

If I had my way? Something in finance would be good, but at the moment I'm willing to take something that will at least lead somewhere. I'm generally experienced in customer service, sales, and general office type roles, but since I've done a fair amount of temping I've got a smattering of experience in all sorts of fields. Still, I've always been in jobs where there's really nowhere to go, nowhere to grow into, so yeah, something I can get stuck into, learn on the job, take on extra training and so on, so as to move on up... I'm trying to keep my options open.

Mrs Oakie and I made a spur of the moment decision last night to do 18 holes at Ascot which is just around the corner from us (and all par 3s for those who don't know). Me, 63, she 91. I give her two strokes a hole (not as dodgy as it sounds to any non-golfers out there) so she beat me and I had to pay for drinks and the meal afterwards.
