Modify Ducati ST4 mufflers?

I'm looking hard at a Duke and somewhere here I have seen a reference to removing or modifying the standard muflers on an ST4, to give the characteristic Ducati snarl.

I can't really stretch to new mufflers as well as the bike, so any ideas??

Had mine done, great workmanship but after a while the increased noise level starting pissing me off - they resonate like hell and sound quite tinny. I ditched them and bought a set of oval carbon fibre mufflers - much, much better, should have done that first and left my cans alone.

i too gutted mine,have had my mates monster done through this guy aswell,(and what a difference it made)but at the end of the day i got a full termi exhaust system,,,if you got the bling make it sing

I bought my Ducati used and it had already been re-baffled. constantly getting comments "Are you sure that's just a 600?" dunno who dunnit though.

How bad does the stock ST4 actually sound?

Not bad as such, just surprisingly quiet. You wouldn't think "Ducati" automatically if one came down the street.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm now thinking maybe replacement pipes could be a better long-term option especially if modified pipes get rejected for a WOF in the future. Keep the originals for inspections.

In fact I was just about to ask what pipes are recommended to replace the standard ones and the approximate cost?

No. A new chip may be in order though, depends. The STs have some learning capability so I've been told.

Cheers, I'll think about that. I'll wait until I've actually got the bike and take one step at a time. I had a look at a NZ Arrow site and there seems to be quite a difference between different bikes although I'd imagine the Dukes would be much the same.

The only cans that fit the STs are those designed for the ST, how it all fits together under the engine is different. This enables the cans can be raised or lowered to suit the panniers when fitted.
