It was operator error. When rolling back using some third party software, I clicked yes, yes, yes, yes, whatever, dunno, yes, yes, what?... unplug.

Heh. Good guess. OS X runs on a Apple-developed Unix core named Darwin, which is open-source and was mostly derived from FreeBSD.

you cannot run the mac as a 'normal' mac from the install DVD, so you can't access the web etc. You can only install and repair stuff.

Finn;
push the DVD into the mac
Reboot the mac and hold 'C' on the keyboard
Click Engrish for the lingo
Click 'Archive and Install'

Now upon booting, i get a black screen with darwin/bsd and its asking for a login. Enter enter bla and i get a gui login but it goes back to darwin.
