Where are the new 'Young Ones' Indy?

Fawlty Towers when it was fresh, even Python for that matter.

These are comedies that defined a generation.

Is some of your (collective) hankering for the 80s because there haven't been any such defining productions since.

So what are the comedic high water marks post '89...the ones that have become metaphors to describe day to day situations?

    The soup nazi?....

    when was hitchikers guide?

    suggestions?

The Mighty Boosh, only a couple of series in but already shows promise. Great characters like the hitcher and old Gregg.

The Simpsons is just about the only long running comedy on at the moment.

    Great pun.

Animation is all I can think of at the moment. I guess Simps opened the doors. Seinfeld was big though... Friends was big. Love watching Two and a Half Men but its hardly gen defining eh. Wonder if Conchords will 'take off'?

Not so, I'm afraid, I was about to say that too but it appears it's rather older (1983-89) than I thought

"Little Britain" and, although its american, "My name is Earl" has it's moments.

You forgot "Red Dwarf" Dave, lots better than "Hitchikers guide" IMHO.

Granted - Blackadder and a lot of Ben Elton is now embedded in conversation.
