Thanks for the tip. I'll try that plugging/unplugging suggestion next time. This time of the year we're out most days, so overnight recharging is the go, and with not always enough time to run things flat. Such is life!
Being Lithium batteries, they don't have the memory effect that the old Ni-Cad's did so charging up each night is fine. On our trip I could probably have managed on one charge, the standby mode made all the difference!
We haven't bothered pairing them with the cell phones, as Mrs. Bear texts while we're riding...
and I just check my phone each time we stop. The kids all know when we're on the bike and they wait for our replies.
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
