So, bollocks, unless you can tell me that everyone with a gun belongs to a militia force, that is implicitly set up with the purpose of protecting the State, then they don't have the right.
They deemed 'militia' totally necessary when drafting the Constitution, even tho today the wording is not appropriate. Just makes it very difficult to make such a law change.

maybe its due to a shit load more people in america - hence a shitload more psycho's and loosers willing to kill others.

NZ has steadily increased in population and so have murders.

    Then again many factors contribute

Oh and guns are piss easy to get here in NZ

No, the USA has six times the gun deaths per population. You gotta look elsewhere for reasons and causes.
    Gun-related deaths per 100,000 people:
    United States 14.24
    New Zealand 2.38

No that should work. So long as the law says only good sane people can carry concealed guns to kill bad insane people, then that should work.
They just need a sign over campus entrance ways saying "If you are a bad person about to kill good people please place your weapons in the amnesty bin" Problem solved.
The root of the problem is obviously that gun saleman don't ask buyers "are you a good person who wont go nuts and kill lots of people. Of course I'm not. Well here's your six semi autos, 4 pistols, 3 shotguns pre-sawn as requested. And I hope these guns help you get rid of those %#@% rats you said have infested your school"

There needs to be a two thirds majoity to change the Constitution. The Electoral Collage elects the President of the United States..........not the people. Democracy............bullshit. If they had a real one this problem would not exist.

My understanding of the "right to bear arms" stuff is that the American colonies had just rebelled against the Crown and thrown off what they felt was an unfair gvmt to establish their own new one. Without arms they would not have had much chance of doing this.

By writing this into their constitution I think the plan was that citizens would have the ability to throw out unfair totalitarian gvmt in the future.

Before you go criticising another country's laws, take a look at our own. At least in the US you are allowed to defend yourself properly and crims get "real" sentences.

Which does, in fact, happen. When a person goes to his/her police station to apply for a Concealed Carry Permit, they are checked out.

You do know about the "waiting period" to purchase a handgun in the USA?

    Stupid yanks
    Strict gun control doesnt work.

Look at the UK where in 1996 the private ownership of handguns for sporting use was totally banned, all in the name of styopping crime. What have we today 12 years on is an armed crime rate that has skyrocketed by something like 500% since the ban.

Criminals and nutters dont pay attention to laws, only the law abiding pay attention and if you are law abiding you probably wont go on a rampage with a gun.

handguns are a different story, but money talks.
so you reckon, that some crased syco person would easily be able to waltz in, buy a gun and then go about killling students without first attracting some notice?

Yeah thats why its such a peaceful utopia, oh wait, I keep getting the USA mixed up with the smurf village.
It all depends on what state you live in. Look at how many people are sued for defending themselves, leaving things in the house like coffee tables that burglers trip on or being sued for running over a kids hand while they were stealing the cars hubcaps.

I had guns pulled on me 3 times when I lived there. Once by the police, once by a security guard, and once by a 12 year old. We should be able to defend ourselves on our own property, its screwed up that theres such a shitfight when someone does defend themselves.
