This also applies you mr. Red Hyosung 250 on the Hutt motorway this morning. Fark me, the "L" on your plate must stand for "lost", cause you sure didnt know the way forward.
FINE. This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

I had a large truck move over for me this morning, and he even moved so as to widen the gap

I waved, as I do to all vehicles that move out of my way.
I finally got my knee down! …and my shoulder …and my pillion’s head.

What suprises me here is that you expected a BMW "rider" not to hold you up. Holding other riders up is in the instruction manual for every BMW. Get used to it.

Exactly. Aren't BMW riders the equivalent of Volvo drivers?

When I am filtering on the motorway I always keep one eye on the mirrors cos I am a slow filterer and there are always bikes coming up behind me. All I need to do is blend back into the traffic and let them past. Generally I get a wave as they go through and then I just slot back into the "middle lane" and carry on. So if you are a slower rider and you filter then watch your mirrors.
Why would anyone choose to drive a car!

Filtering, pahh. Just aim to start work at 7 am. Not too much traffic around at that stage, and it's all going faster than 100ks.

Now be fair those BMs are pretty damned wide, and you have to admire any one willing to go between two cars on one.

Coming back towards the harbour bridge a few weeks ago traffic was moving about 30-40k - prime splitting speed. I split up to a Harley who was between cars - going exactly the same speed as the cars. After a few minutes (which feels like forever) I realise he is keeping EXACT pace between two cars - slowing when they slow, and speeding up when they do. So he is blocking me completely, and aware of me.
When I found a route around by changing lanes etc. he didn't seem to change his behaviour, so probably wasn't blocking me, just doing something very odd.
    Anyone else seen this?

I too rode back from Paeroa on Sun and experienced the full range of riding behaviour, from timid to 'are you f#@%**! insane especially at Maramarua you crazy Trumpy Triple rider passing a GSX14 who was pasing a campervan while a big semis coming t other way. Also saw many Lplate riders riding at a reasonable speed but within their and their machines ability, hats off to you people not trying to keep up w the speed machines.
Sometimes the hard bit with sifting is knowing when to stop ie if trafiics crawling, off u go ,then it picks up a bit and there u are doing 90ks in a lane thats not really a lane oh well

Most people end up filtering between BMWs. :P

Yip this morning i got stuck behind a trail bike whom was behind a Yamaha R1 or R6, which in turn was behind a cruiser of some shape or form. At korokoro lights the cruiser pulled aside to let yammie and i stack up and then trail bike went down the inside to head into petone. Cue the green light and the yammie takes off and leaves me space to take the lead and split all the way from there to the flyover.

Please check your mirrors when splitting, and let the bike behind go past then carry on at your own speed. As for the earlier comment about if youre not confident dont split - absolute rubbish, split at your own speed and the confidence/fearlessness/stupidity will build.

Ahah, it's not just me that gets fucked off with slow assed filterers (is filterer a word?, if not can I patent it?).

On another note - BMW's. It is with considerable regret that I admit this. I mean, I ride motorcycles, not sad assed mid-life crisis with heated hang grips and adjustable screens...

    But at Paeroa...

Shit, this is really, REALLY tough... I mean not as tough as admitting that you like country music or that you think it's okay for a bloke to shed a tear and say the word "feelings"...

    But...

But, after riding the gixer all the way from Auckland, along the winding road, and the resultant sore knees (I need another knee reconstruction) - I found myself thinking about my mate Phil's new BMW R1200 thingee. Not for the heated handgrips, or for that nifty adjustable screen. But I found myself dreaming of having a ride in that big comfy armchair with my knees at a reasonable angle. And cruise control to make up for my lack of self control.

But, it's like asking your mate to share his missus. Phil's an okay sort, for a BMW owner. And he rides a Buell as well, so he's not gay. And it goes okay, once he roared past me doing a buck fifty. Miles, not kay's.
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

I'm constantly checking my rear view when splitting to let faster riders through but that can be a bit dodgy as that then momentarily takes my attention away from whats going on in front. Need to watch this as I'm going South over the Gorge flyover, just before and when it meets the Hutt traffic. Too many cages make split second lane changes from inside to outside lane and if I'm still checking my rear view...

Some riders acknowledge my pulling in, some don't. Makes me feel chuffed and good about riding when they do though.

As an aside, found myself automatically nodding to a rider tonight... but I was in my car at the time. Muppet.

    Alright, THAT deserves a big

It is a bit tricky getting the mighty 180 degree V-twin thru gaps, but it is no wider than my mirrors.

Compare me to a Volvo driver? pffft. (I don't even like bowling)

Roll on winter, so I can fully utilise my superior bavarian heated grips!

Theres a dude on a silver BMW 1200GS on my route home - he always looks so goddamn comfortable on that thing. And for a really tall bike he is 3 times as manouvarable as the gixxer through traffic. Hmmmm.
