Nobody's forcing anyone to download any images. If you choose not to view the embedded images, then use YOUR browser settings to turn off automatic image downloading. Don't deny the rest of us that ability. If there is a thread with lots of images you don't want to see, don't read the thread!!!
In IE7, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab, Multimedia section, tick 'Show image download placeholders' and clear 'Show pictures'. If you are reading a photo-essay / magazine format post or thread, with automatic download of images off, should a particular caption etc catch your eye then you can right-click and choose Show Picture. I mean, don't all you people stuck with dial-up do this by default anyway???
Note you will also have to right-click & show picture on all the graphics on the site, just once - thereafter they will be in your cache and will show.
There are so many things wrong with the KB attachment system I don't know where to start.
Cheers,
Colin

No need show how to block stuff using IE etc... for a start I use Firefox with a few handy plugins that block a lot crap on the net![]()
Being a graphic artist I have files as large as 300mb (and video files tha are 4gig I wish I could show at full res on the net but I can't the technology is simply not available to do so as of yet... and yes control of your image is important... the correct contrast and clarity etc... Uploading to the gallery you can upload larger images anyway than the embeded method. jpg 768kb vs 100kb with embedding. With the gallery you are allow 6 images per post. At the end of the day meaning the gallery you have a higher grade image...
think about it say you were allowed to have your large embedding... how many per thread would do... 30 at 768kb each, 28 odd mb to downloading at once... even on Broadband I wouldn't bother... Just because BB is quicker you are only as fast as the slowest link and slowest server you pase through...
On average if people have to wait for more that (x period of time) with random browsing them simply move on to the next site... I hate flash websites that I have to wait for it to download (I simply block them... including them stupid joke cartoon animation things) I hate being force to download music file when entering a site... I simple block that to
I want to see your photos... at my pace, not clogging my system (especially when the other half is trying to view something else on her system most like porn![]()
) Thats why there are the various photo gallerys available
KB allows 6 images per post... Yes the gallery I use on my sites I can ftp a whole directory (and it doesn't use a MySQL database) so less chance of corruptionThey're usually designed with ease-of-use in mind, and usually offer bulk-uploading systems.
I suppose if KB had a SLURP feature that would be kewl...
Happy to give KBers shots of themselves on KB the KB way.
For most artists it's on my terms or not at all. I display to a standard and in a format. For an article or feature the KB way doesn't meet it. Part of the 'thing' is the layout. Marrying words and pictures.

I don't cater to your tastes in this matter Mr Nighthawk. Too many people diggin' it - I could collect a thousand such endorsements.
So I reiterate that is why I wanted a separate place for such shenannegans.
And I'd include flash movies. :-P
Anyway - it's all cool. free stuff and i have a work around.
Yeah but do people really like them?
Too bad if you are on dialup or your screen is small.
The world can't wait for you. If the world keeps waiting for you, it'll never move on to bigger and better things.
It's like asking for the motorway to run at 70km/h because that is as fast as your old Austin goes.

DON'T RIDE LIKE YA STOLE IT, RIDE TO SURVIVE.
You start with 1-2000 photos off the camera after a day of shooting and after editing are down to 2-300.
That's around 5 mins each to edit...
Of those 4-5 may be really good and 1 or 2 standouts, maybe, if you're lucky and didn't forget you'd set the exposure compensation to -1 earlier for that sweet black bike
And I only do this for fun
People just don't understand us sensitive artistic types eh Dave.
:BUUURRRPPP!:
Ahhh, that's better.
