this is going to be hard on every part of your mind and body, i would still do it with my hand back in a cast (looks probable) with a smile on my face.

its all i talk about at work to my customers and already getting offers of support and sponsorship.

im hard. some things in life look bigger than they really are, this is just a short 3 day ride, no worries

but still looking around for the right bike, you know the one that just says i will get you there. (or something)
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

Was considering dropping this guy an email, see if he can give me a discount for 20 or so of these patches. I reckon they'd be quite fitting, 'Death or Glory'

Stick to the back roads (maybe gravel, but the bikes we're talking of will be fine on gravel).

It's not that big a deal

I'd say there and back in the day, but to do that y' really need to do it midsummer for the light. It's about a 16 hour ride.

But one night should be enough.
i agree with all of that except one bit: gravel

the pocket rockets/mini choppers don't have suspension so little 6.5" rims with slicks on gravel without susension on a chinese bike prone to rattling to pieces even in a smooth carpark maybe isn't something we want to do too much of... probably have to carry them across any mud - and the pocket rockets don't even have proper seats

no long at all; a 2 stroke with a 1.5L tank will get a little over an hour depending on how you ride it

at 40kph obviously this is a problem.... will just have to keep a few cans of premix in the car/van i guess

I was under the impression that no pocket rocket's are going, you'd have to pay real money to make 'em legal and that's just plain ridiculous.

As for mini choppers... I reckon they'd do alright.

draft details for the cc challenge

ok guys here it is the draft layout of the CC CHALLENGE.....
as this is only a draft your comments are more than welcome and all feedback will be noted and considered for the final ride!

    WHAT: CC Challenge

WHY: To raise funds to be donated to the running of this site and a donation to Outward Bound, also as a personal challenge THIS IS NOT A RACE

    WHERE: Auckland to the Cape

WHEN: Friday 6th June 2008 due to be back in Auckland on Sunday 8th June 2008

MEET POINT: The bottom carpark (next to the outlet stores) at Westgate shopping center. We will be meeting at 6am SHARP, with a brief before we DEPART at 7am. we dont need typical late bikers.

ENTRY CRITERIA: This is open to anyone who meets the following criteria.
Bike must cost no more than $1000, have a current warrant and reg (or be completely unsuitable to the journey at hand). Your bike MUST be ROAD LEGAL
The bike must have less than 200cc or a flat out top speed of less than 120.
The bike must not be capable of cruising at 100.
If you are unsure if your bike meets the criteria feel free to PM one of the organizers to verify, either BigDog or myself, it will not be discussed in the thread until a ruling has been provided please PM one of us if you are unsure.

ROUTE PLAN: At this stage Ixion's route seems a suitable one, but any suggestions are welcome. a map will be attached once the route has been marked out and finalized so watch for that.

RISKS: As you are all aware this is ENTRY AT YOUR OWN RISK we will be on open roads in all weather conditions, you are responsible for your own safety. ALL RIDERS MUST HAVE the appropriate clothing for the ride and be wearing a HI-VIS vest, this is for your safety. As we are riding in a group there shouldnt be to many issues out there with traffic.
If you have first aid certification please let me know.
also it is a recommendation to carry a first aid kit and a puncture repair kit as we will be on gravel roads.

COST: There will be an entry cost to this event this is yet to be decided on the amount and all funds go into the kitty to be donated, also at this stage we anticipate some costs for food (beers and BBQ) and accommodation for both nights or if there is a friendly biker out there that doesnt mind letting us sleep on your lawn or paddock for a night drop me a line.

SWEEP VAN/TRUCK: We need a volunteer/s to drive behind as a safety car and a sweep vehicle. WE CAN NOT RIDE UNLESS WE HAVE ONE this is also for safety reasons. So drop me a PM if you can provide your service.
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
