I fee that this is something private for him,and ridicule and taking the piss, while fun, is really not going to help the guy become a productive member of society.

So it is with other people in similar situations. Perhaps those of us in positions to provide guidance and input could find someone struggling and provide them with some mentoring?
Good on ya for being a stand up guy.

The army and navy is a good place to get some good bones to build on, gives you a good level of belonging, hard yakka, fitness, skills and training/qualifications for the future. I think it is an opportunity to grab with both hands for many lost souls out there. Many youngins could do with a stint these days, I'm sure many of you have a family member/friend/aquaintence you think could do with a good sorting out with a life experience like the army/navy.

I know. I know a lot of the people who have. I am also aware that he has made claims before that he "is going to change" and so far it has been fruitless. Hence I said in my post the he NEEDS TO WANT TO CHANGE.

I can only deduce that he fails to step up to the plate because he:

    a) hasn't really been held truly accountable.
    b) has people readily expecting him to fail
    c) has never had the self discipline or self responsibility to see a serious committment through
    d) people get caught in a cycle of life.

I am not defending him. I am big on personal responsibility and self ownership. But I also would hate to think that someone like Mark couldn't eventually be helped to master those issues that are blocking his progress.

    Depends on the person.

Some people use the insults and ridicule as a motivation to change themselves. But they still have to want to change.

Exactly right. Sadly a lot of people do not learn the aforementioned personal traits in their daily living, be it family or school or whatever. Gaining these skills can change a person!

    ROFL...

    ---------------------------------

I can see a friend in need, good on you Morcs for posting that up. Would have been a tough decision - on the one hand the cretin of KB (or the more enlightened... cant decide) put him down and speak negatively for their own enjoyment. However the small minority with true hearts of gold have offered Mark some advice, accommodation and did Ixion even offer to pay bond?

Now that is true camaraderie from our great KB network

Mark, if I had the space I would offer you a place to stay but alas I live in a studio apartment!

Good luck mark, i'm always available to talk and offer support where I can.

That is what I was partly saying, he needs to want to change.

More column centimetres have been wasted on this site discussing the pros and cons of the aptly-named skidMark than probably any other member. Indeed the mere mention of this name is enough to initiate a feverish response that will run to hundreds of posts. I am not sure of why some members believe he deserves any serious consideration or respect. Perhaps there is a belief that exorcising the *barking-mad, braindead, irresponsible idiot child* within is cathartic?

I think that hinges on whether Mark is really ready to face up to his weaknesses and whether he is ready to do something about them. Cause if he isn't, no one can help him yet.

The army/navy is a good way to learn and appreciate lots of basic things in life, it does teach you a lot. Been there done that. Did Cadet training for 4 years. However I must stress it's not for everyone.

I am with you on this one 100 % mate but what exactly do you think will make him learn and be accountable and responsible is the million dollar question sourrounding Mark.

Not things on a golden platter, perhaps it's time he learns the hard way? Maybe that's why the parents aren't backing him this time?

    Your thoughts?
