    What do you do when...

the doctors tell you, you can no longer continue working in your profession?

this happened to me today, im sitting here contemplating what to do next....
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

i was a barista... make coffee for a living.
doing the same thing for hours on end at pace has left me with damage to the nerves in my hands. have had 2 doctors and my physio tell me time to change career.
i am now on acc for 2 weeks then who knows. it will prob get renewed but still that leaves me on 80% of what i was earning previously

Find a career guidance bod, establish what you would like to do and retrain towards that.

Get in touch with ACC or other state agnecies and see if there is assistance in retraining (might be nice to get it paid for...!)

    Then... Go for it!

Get a business loan, buy a cafe and employ/train another coffee monkey to do it for you?

I've never given it much thought. Prostitution is my life.

It's not alsways easy finding a direction that you like that doesn't continue to damage your hands but when you find one do talk with ACC & see what help you may get. The DR should put in writing for you & Acc you are not in a position to work full time in your current work & retraining is advisable.
Think long term work, play balance & minimising further injury to yourself when looking at new work.

Get yourself one of these things: http://www.powerballs.co.nz

They REALLY do work - even more so for preventing 'forearm pump' - you know - when you've got a death grip on the bars, due to tricky conditions, and then your arms start to get that burning feeling?

Which can mean subsidised courses. Perhaps it's time to start looking at what the local polytechs etc can offer...
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon

Bummer. Sort of know what that's like - had a busted wrist that doc's and hospital said wasn't - took 9 weeks before they revised their original diagnosis. Was off work for 11 weeks all up.

Oh well, keep them in mind - maybe in a few weeks when things start to improve...

    Good luck!
