Importing a race bike

I'm hoping to bring my Honda RS125 race bike with me when I move to NZ next month.

Has anyone had any problems importing a race bike into NZ. I've got a crate sorted and origonal sales invoice, anything else I need to get done,watch out for?

Having imported a road bike from the UK, I can tell you that they are pretty fussy. I understand that a racing bike is considred the same class as a lawnmower and so long as you declare and confirm it will not be used on the road, you will have no problems. The form you have to complete is completely different to that for a road bike and it is important to get this part right, plus have a full steam cleaning certification for MAF to see.

I don't think you will have too many problems. You will however have to pay gst on the worth of the bike. So it may be more beneficial if you don't have the original reciept. The going price of a 125 these days can't be more than $2 grand, aye officer

My understanding is that if he has PR and signs a declaration (DOU) not to sell it within 2 years, there will be no GST or other costs.

An easy answer would be to dissmantle it and make it spare bike parts.

Thanks for the response guys, that makes me feel a little better.

Its a '92 chassis with '94 componentry. Is it fast-yes clocked 140mph at the old Assen, am I fast- not anymore, but I love 125s and couldn't live without it. Can't wait to hussle it round Ruapuna. Great to see so many 125 riders out there, I don't race anymore but look forward to comming to support some of you guys.

Mate, you will love NZ. It has everything the UK has without the 3 hour traffic jams. Plus when you get there, you don't get ripped off by having to pay for parking plus that mandatory burger and ice cream. Or even having a crap.

Apologies to any Kiwis considering going to the UK for a stint however IMO: NZ=FAB UK=CRAP.
