Looking at a map, it seems as though masterton is the most direct route

What a mint day. I was quite concerned about the gravelly bits...with good reason. I had a slide in the cliffhanger corner and ran it wide onto the last 100mm of road. I thought it was all over but thankfully it stayed on the tarmac.

Not everyone was so fortunate, but that's their story to tell not mine.

What goes on the hillclimb stays on the hillclimb...unless people want to divulge of course.

The record of 2.13s something or other is definitely going to be broken tomorrow. Jay did a 2.13 today, on only his third run on the full distance, and Drew, Warren Turner and Johnny Burkhart are not far behind.

I took 3 seconds of my PB so I'm stoked.

    Roll on tomorrow.

Awesome, looks like to lining up to be a classic huh? Looking forward to reading some trip reports.

Bet the race bike felt pretty nice Deano. Was the time improvements up on the Repsol?

ps - think M is looking forward to having some time to play with wee Rex tom bro.

    Hi mate,

I feel a bit bad that you can't be there.

I didn't use the SV today - just wanted to practice on the Repsol, then it should be a cakewalk tomorrow on the SV - although, Sully60 seems to be hauling arse - Skidda/00 is a couple of seconds behind him I think.

One of the highlights for me is seeing Hel's shit eating grin at the top of the hill.

Nikki got some footage for ya, and will get more tomorrow.

i had a GREAT FUCKING time on the hill yesterday

thanks to all the organisers.. i know how much work is needed !!

i turned up JUST as the bikes were lining up for the first sighting run... paid, got bike OKed
    and the buell was rumbling!!!

took all my race gear.. but on the sighting runs i didn't have the time to change gloves/boots...
but as they were slow (cough..cough) runs i thought it ok..

my first run was scary.. gravel on a couple of the corners made me slow down far tooooo early, but i didn't really care as i made it to the top with a smile!.. time??... i think their battery run out in the timing gear i took so long.. at a guess about 3:30+

second run.. what was wrong?.. yep it was me, after the stressful day at the funeral i was tiered, and it Finlay hit me ... couldn't concentrate... bla.. bla.. bla.. or was it the fact that i had seen cowpoos????.. and talked to him... on that note, it was great to see the big Q there in his nice new car!! wow man that is .... eye catching!!! bet ya pull the chicks in that!!, just one thing.... is it on BOTH sides??
but back to the run, i gave it heaps, over hear a guy saying that you could hold it in top around the first corner... yer right as i backed off ( i bet EVER ONE could hear me back off 500m tooo soon hahahaha. but at least i tried!... threw the gravel, getting off the bike more as the corners flew by.. not as blurry as others.. but enough for this old man!..
waved with my leg to the boozie boys, who were hooting and yelling as each one of us flew past... that was great, made me think i was at the isle of man....... arriving at the top i was thinking "man i am soooo sleepy"!
there was a van parked up the top.. i lay down in the back and went to sleep... next thing i know helen arrives, signalling that the last ones are very near and that we had to go back down...
time:.2:36..... yer right...it should have read 3:06... but hey thats what they had!... till i found out that they had a glitch ..bugger

3rd run: i took off with bugger all prep, the timing guy was chatting to me about how nice my bike was and how he would love to buy it for 20k...( yer , yer half of what it is worth i know..)when he suddenly said shit .5..4... zip up jacket GO! this time i held the throttle open even lifting the wheel in 3 on the change, the first corner was coming up fast i saw 120MILES on speedo as i changed into top... just in time to throttle off and snap open ( on the buell you really don't need to use the brakes much...) that was enough to slow the bike for the first 2 corners... deano had told me about a line he used threw the gravel, missed the first one but seamed to nail it on the second ( thanks deano) i did slow for them though... on the last corner, i held it open and just hung on, clicking it into top just before the finish... what time i did it in ?.. at that stage i didn't care... i knew where i could go faster ( every corner..lol) .. changed down too many gears at the "Cliff-hanger" corner and locked up the rear...a little sideways, but for some reason it didn't feel wrong!... the front was going where i wanted it and i think that helps a LOT..i just gave it till the rev limiter kicked in and changed up... at 7,000 rpm...
    time:... 3:02...
yes i know i could have broken the 2 min, but i will save that for another day

as there were a couple of time delaying concerns, that was all we had, i didn't care, both riders were walking and talking...

and i had more than my money's worth... i learnt more about my bike, just how stable it is going around a corner while the front wheel was barely touching the ground and that my pipe is LOUD...

    thanks again guys!!!

    what a ride so far!!!!
