No they don't. Such abuse has to be earned - and most often it is

Firstly, I disagree. If you look at the Members List, sorted by reputation, there are relative nooblies who have a substantial number of reps (courtesy of posting rude or silly things that appeal to other nooblies), while other fossils/dinosewers/senior members are relatively low down the list. So the "reputation" points are really either "popularity" or "infamy" points, depending on how they're used. Either way, they have little to do with the worthiness of posts or the member who posted them.
Secondly, I don't really care (point one was just a logic thing, and rebuttal to your comment). I don't care enough to vote. It's nice to be able to comment on (praise or rubbish) someone's post without having to PM them or publicly post in the thread, but the rep points themselves are meaningless.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Ain't that the truth. You can slave for hours on something, writing and rewriting and you don't even get a post in response. Give someone some shit, deserved or otherwise, and the rep comes flooding in.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Except as an indication of what kinds of posts appeal to the average KBer.

Often, I think, people feel humbled by such an effort, and unworthy to add to it.

Yup - I have no problem with ditching it. Feedback on posts is useful though

Post the feedback - this is a forum after all.... or pm the person.... why wank on with the rep?

I suppose people will always be divided on this.... the ones who see value in rep, and the ones that dont.

Unless a significant proportion of the regular viewers (1200+ of them) voted in this poll it is in no way representative at all. So at least 600 people (half of the daily regular number) need to vote before I'd even consider taking the result seriously. But that won't happen because so few people actually give a rats arse about rep.

I was always going to reset the poll to it's correct state (and have now done so) after a few hours. It's always very interesting and educational to see who comes out and gets highly offended and about what.

I believe Mr J Random started this thread and poll as a wind up and is sitting in front of his computer having a hell of a laugh. What he didn't expect was that I'd pick it up and run with it by pushing it onto the news page and get as many people as possible in on it. His responses in this thread would tend to back up that it is in fact a piss take.
Zen wisdom: No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously. - obviously had KB in mind when he came up with that gem
