    Whiting
    Holland's
    Hornby
    Pacific Motorcycles
    Norjo's
    ChCh motorcycles

then the lesser more dodgy ones were about too

Tommy started where Eric Woods was
Eric Woods started where Monarch used to be
    Tommy sold Suzuki before Yamaha
Norjo's sold Suzuki before they sold Kawasaki
ChCh Motorcycles started out selling Suzuki
Pacific started the Jap import gig
    Bland Brothers where Euro importers
John Boot dealt in anything but had some gems
Creswells had the best Mechs in town (Eddie McCann was a wizard)
    You forgot
    Jacks Yamaha
    Monarch Yamaha
    Kevin Mc Cleary
    Rex Russell Motor Cycles
    Christchurch Motor Cycles
    Pacific Motor Cycles

And a few small shops like Steve Vi-kers (wrong spelling)
Feel the fear and do it anyway

off to the optometrist for you

Rex Russell was more of a motorcycle engineering shop than sales.

KG motorcycles too but more of a basic workshop place
Allparts sold 2nd hand stuff plus 2nd parts (wreckers)
    Best Motorcycles
and the other one next door (like a wee boutique shop) both just down from Whiting's
The wee shop at the intersection of Clyde Rd/Memorial Ave/Fendalton Rd

Oops read and typed and thought I was on a roll and forgot to check.
Red wine and trying to do three things at once.:slap:

You still for got Jacks Yamaha.

Who was the bike shop that was next to Eric Woods if it was not Rex Russell?
They sold Brit bikes had a oily wooden floor and you had to walk up a ramp.
Eric Woods is now on their on site.

As for Whitings I knew it when it was Whiting and Waltho and old Mrs Whiting was the main "man" on parts and she'd still give me student discount years after I'd finished Uni - and her old man was always dressed in a long coat a bit like a lab tech. I presume they closed because sadly at their age I doubt any of them live on this earth any more. What I could never believe is the old girl always had the parts in stock that I wanted even the minute trivia, but that was before overnight couriers.

I lived in ChCh from 73-78 and initially Tommy's was Suzuki then changed to Yamaha - never knew why as they weren't such a popular brand then.
hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa... man your explaination of Whitings is so accurate, how come back then it was on the shelf but these days its X Japan.
I dont remember Tommys being zookie but then again you left in 78, I was 10... yet 7yrs later nothing had changed at Whitings... I love it.

I remember going in to Whitings one day to get a clutch cable for my SL125. They let me go upstairs (I think it was) and rifle through boxes of cables until I found the right one. I remember the white lab coat as well.

Not Bond and Hockley and there was another shop as well Blair Carpenter Motor Cycles or were they the same with different owners.
I thought the shop next to Eric Woods was Rex Russell's and then moved or closed down that shop and went back to a engineering shop that worked on bikes.

We also had a shop in Columbo St first.
He had to skip the country to go to Oz as he owned money.
I knew a guy that was looking after his racing car.
