There's always the old history trick , (not sure if one item at a time can be deleted from history) but if not, ya only have to have a nosy at history after study time and if he abuses the usage, take it off him next time he wants it outside of study ! Irrelevent if ya have it blocked, but ya will unblock it at some stage for him im sure !
I personally hate BEBO, Kids spend ten minutes on it and im spending an hour cleaning the spyware out of the pc rrrrrrr

He wants to stop his home computer from being able to see the bebo website.

Two ways to do it:

1. If you have a fancy-pants ADSL router with a built-in firewall, like I do, just add 'bebo.com' to its list of blocked addresses. And remember to set it up with a password so that nobody else can just go in and disable that!

2. If you don't have a fancy-pants router, you'll need to install something like Net Nanny, and, once again, set your PC up properly so that whoever's being restricted by it has to use their own limited-access logon and can't just disable the internet filtering.

Lucky some of us have half a brain eh mate!

this is 2008 not 1992. Computers and the use of the internet is a skill that is nessacessary (as well as a spellchecker) in this day and age. There is no advantage to be had by a ban of the computer. High schools expect the use of the internet to help with homework. And I would like him to do his homework. Bebo is a 13yr olds kiwibiker. It is just a distraction. got it blocked now so that should work for a while. And easy way to unblock it when I allow him to use the pc when he is not studying. No point in throwing the baby out with the bathwater...........

Yep agree with the sick shit on the net vs mags 20 yrs ago,no contest there.Way too many differing porn sites verging on sick,sure tastes are personal,but when you hear guys/girls talking about sites verging on rape via drunken teens etc ffs.

The hosts file should work. If it doesn't then either you have done something wrong or the internet is being accessed through a proxy server - unlikely (check Internet options, connections, LAN settings).

Yes anyone can access the hosts file if they know about it. Two solutions to this, either set up two users, one that has change rights and one that doesn't.
Or just check the time stamp on the hosts file to see if its been modified and explain that an ass-kicking will be forthcoming if anyone touches it.
