    Buying DVDs

I am currently in Nepal on holiday about to return home.

If I buy DVDs here will they work on my DVD player at home? I just have a basic $60.00 player from Dick Smiths

(This is NOT a discussion about Pirate DVDs!!)

the cheapo disk smith player runs LINUX thats why it plays them. microsoft will clearly not allow such freedoms as playing a DVD you rightfully own.

the region lock is in the firmware of the player mechanism.
i hate windows more than the next man, but DVD players don't run PC operating systems.
if you put a region locked PC DVDROM drive in a windows Linux, or MacOS box, you'd get the same result, no dice on an out of set region disc.

you can't blame bill for this one.

Some DSE drives play all zones, even though they say just zone 4.

I would not go and buy a huge stack of them - but there are programs and many ways of removing the zone lock from DVD's. So one way or another you would be able to watch them.
