    Queens Birthday is on 2/06/08 which means a long weekend, therefore the idea is to do a 250cc three day tour to the West Cape (if you can call it that). Leaving Saturday Morning from Auckland, and coming back to auckland on Monday Night.
    This tour is aimed mainly at people riding 250cc bikes. People riding larger motorcycles are more than welcome to attend but bear in mind that the main group speed is going to be 100 - 110k, so you may get bored. Everyone is wellcome to ride the speed they are comfourtable with (faster than us 250cc if you like). To attend this event you must be comfourtable with open road riding, which means that if its going to be your first time on open road then this ride is not for you.

    Day 1:
    Meeting at BP Autobahn in Papakura Auckland at 7:30 am - 31/05/08
    Leaving 8:00am SHARP.

    Bp Autobahn Location ---> http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...5&z=13&iwloc=C

    Going via SH22 and Forgotten highway making our way to New Plimouth for the night. Will try to stop in Whangamomona as the place was recommended for great food...

    I was thinking about that but I'd much prefer a nice comfy bed. If you are keen on a tent you can bring one and can sleep on the lawn or on the beach. fine by me.

    Taken it into account. Surely turangi doesn't have just one place for sleep. Then there is Toupo, Ohakune, Tauramanui, Waiouru...etc.

    Smile Route suggestions

    There is another road that goes around Mt Egmont a bit higher up the mountain, it's got lots of twisty tar seal, and is very scenic. The road up the mountain to North Egmont is also worth a look.

    Uh, I've never used google maps, so I can't figure out how to do that right now. From Maptoaster: Egmont Rd intersects SH3 at Egmont village. It goes straight up the North side of the mountain to North egmont. Nice twisty road and (I imagine) good views from the top, if you aren't stuck in a cloud (as we were).
    Back on SH3 going towards New Plymouth you do a bit of a dog leg through Mangorei Rd and Baker Rd to get onto Carrington Rd, which skirts around the edge of the mountain. We went as far as Parihaka Rd and followed it down to the main highway and the lighthouse.
