It wasn't just a badge they were or weren't given. The subjects in the stanford experiment weren't just told you are prisoner and you are guard. They were given outlines on how they were to "work", ie.. you are not allowed to let the prisoners do this or do that. It was the carry over, if you will, that was the interesting find - that roles became an exaggeration of the primary outlines they were given. And new sub culture behaviour arose.
Here, mods are made mods and told to look out for anyone causing problems - and here's some general rules (less stringent that what the guards in the experiment were instructed). Users are told to behave or be moderated. There's no developed sub-culture where they become exceptionally cruel and create "hazing" practices. At most you can say they have become cynical and a bit bored with the same complaints they probably get everyday.

Cynical and bored? Heaven forbid! I delight in all manifestations of inanity and abuse of language, literary convention and of Moderators themselves.
If it wasn't for a small bunch of up-themselves-small-penises who take themselves and their utterances too seriously, life as a Moderator would be blissful. Particularly for those of us who are also UTSPs who take ourselves and our utterances far too seriously.
