ive got the n95 original edition and yeah the supplied nokia maps requires active connection to download maps on the go but with aftermarket programs such as Garmin Mobile you can have preloaded maps just as you would on a handheld gps.

Also, if you turn the assisted gps off, you dont need to use any data, only have to wait 1 extra minute for gps lock on. I use it everyday and its great has the same software as standalone gps with autorouting and voice directions. I think the new iphone will end up having the same sort of arrangement as tomtom has already made a program for it. good for those on prepay like me...

yeah thats what i used initially but if you look hard enough you can find the official garmin nz maps which are more accurate for auto routing purposes...

i have been using the free auto routing maps and they have been pretty accurate, and what i have found to be wrong has been corrected within a day of them being notified.

It uses Assisted GPS. It triangulates the cellar network base stations to identify which satellites to use to get your location. Supposed to be faster to locate your position. I would assume that if there is no phone signal then it will search for satellites like any normal GPS unit.

If it can't find the satellites, e.g. you're inside, then it uses whatever it can (wifi, cellular, etc) to work out your location. So, in theory at least, smarter than your average GPS unit.

    I don't have a Honda, so I don't really want one thanks.

You Honda riders have fun with that.

Hacked ones Skiddy and they were on average $875. As much as a hacked phone appears cool to the outside world, the reality is it is a flakey piece of shit with no warranty.

Given that everything electronic is now manufactured by 12 year old SE Asians in shitty factories for about $2 a month, I want that warranty.

The official Vodafone one will be between $400 and $500 to start with.

You were too slow with the Honda thing. I had to do it.

This is the iPhone 2.0, not the original one. Apple only announced the release of this model the other day.
