    Grandparents

At the beginning of this week my son told me I'm going to be a Grandmother . I feel too young to be a Grandmother & was hoping the kids would quite a while longer.
Is there anyone out there who have become Grandparents before the age of 40 & if so How Old??

I have found a solution to this matter. I have avoided having children. So far this strategy has worked particularly well in terms of keeping grandchildren at bay. I recommend it highly.

Not that im under 40 but my daughter just had my first grandson night b4 last ! Quite looking forward to the grandad experience !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    you are what you are

having or not having children, grandchildren or poodle puppies does not define you

We were a bit over 40 but age is irrelevant. Our cave dwelling ancestors would have been grand-parents by the age of 30 and I guess there are still quite a few people around nowdays who are only becoming parents at about 40 let alone being grandparents. It doesn't mean you'll automatically grow old overnight! Just get out there and do some misbehaving just to re-affirm who you are and you'll be right.

Oh, and enjoy your grandchild. They're a huge amount of fun ... much better than your own kids!

I intend to enjoy the baby. Now that I've got used to the idea I like it. I don't feel any older infact I've never felt my age. I think it's just the stigmatism of the word. When you are a kid you look at your Grandparents & think wow they are Old. I remember thinking my Mum & Dad were Old when they hit 40, Now they are 70 & going to be Great Grandparents. I don't think the same today, cause I know it isn't so. You are as Old or as young as you feel. My mum say's she still feels 21, but her body has decided to get old.
At the end of the day, As it has been said, We'll be able to enjoy the baby & have fun with it & maybe even enjoy being the Great Grandparent when the time comes.

That's a real shame, as most kids aren't that bad. Not sure if this sounds right, but I have a feeling now today, I've achieved something with mine. I brought them into the world, watched them grow & mature, make their mistakes & still making them & now one of them is going to be doing the same thing.
I must admit though at the time I had my son, my thoughts were, "What the F...... Have I done!!!" I have this wee tiny thing, I'm totally responsible for & who is reliant on me, for the next 18yrs. Sickness, broken bones etc etc, Scary stuff when you think like that & that tunnel was very dark for along time.

The MsTriumph post is the definitive post on just about everything, brilliantly (and succinctly) written! Jennie and I were within a few months of 60 before our granddaughter came along but calendar age is completely irrelevant, it's your mental approach to life that's important, not that you need telling that! Cherish your grandchild to be and make the most of the cards that life deals you!

Sadly, our granddaughter is in Melbourne but the world isn't such a big place. Easier to get there than Dunedin!

Our first, (and so far only, but we keep hinting...) grandson is now two and since he was born our lives have been so much richer! Seeing him with his mum and dad, (eldest daughter), is a feeling I cannot describe!

We're a bit older, but still young enough to thoroughly enjoy him and the rest of the family.

Our son is 32, now, and we were very young when he was born, but looking back, we are completely happy with where we are now.

It's more to do with how well you get on as a family, than how old you are. For every difference that could be better at a different age there is a plus that things are as they are.

You will be very happy as a Grandma!

I was a young mum and became a grandmother before 40. While I can't say I was happy with the idea at the time, 12 years on, I have 5 of the little darlings and love them all.
The only drawback, as I see it, is that as I still have a teenager at home, I am a busy person. My grandkids have to fit in around my lifestyle, it is not a happening thing the other way around!
But they all think its pretty cool that their Nan and Granddad have motorbikes!!
