    Harley ignition?

If you have ever timed a Ironhead before you will know what I am talking about. I was thinking about getting a set and forget electronic Ignition system for a old XLCH Sporteter, or should I stick with points and get something like a Blue Streak Sifton “Tuneable” Ignition or a Mallory set up? The Dynatec is a bit overkill with its four selectable curves and rev limits etc. somthing with out shitty points, any of the harley guys know?

Upgrade with stock Harley modules. Not plug and play but the wiring is straight forward. If your bike doesnt have a voes swith you dont "need" one but it will run better with it.
    cheers

None of the above - they just run by 'majick'.

I would go for a factory upgrade - my '81 Ironhead had electronic and the only problem I ever had was a coil that lost 'fire' at one end when hot - it had been cracked in a crash at soem stage.

    New coil =

So do you reckon I should get some up grade points? I have fitted a Andrews coil.

Is the points and back plate the same as a big block?

MY suggestion is: Check and see if the electronic ignition from an '81 sporty will fit yours, if so buy one and replace your whole set-up with the electronic set-up.

It may be that there's an after-market replacement electronic kit for your model, Google may be your friend here.

As far as the big-block ignition? - sorry, can't help with interchangability.
