you should just buy a vtr250...awesome bike to learn on with enough controlled grunt to do most things that noobs do....very forgiving bike and great mileage (mine used to give me nearly 30kms/l and i used to hoon around!!)

just save up a lil bit, might take you a lil longer but i bet you'll come out the other end happier vtr

oh and get a red one....everyone knows red = faster

hey all.. been ages. sorry. 201's a mother Parker, but her daddy's 205.. (hehe, i'nt that right kyle).. hectic last few days.

right, so update. talked to owner of silver vtr on wed night. lowest he'd go with me was 3900 (i really need to practice haggling more- ehab was like start lower! lower u fool.. not 3900, say 3800! 3800!!! ). hehe. but that too. wasn't too bad (so i thought). so decided to make transfer. (insufficient funds!). so called up the sister to see what she had on hand. she's broke. was a sad moment after the excitement of believing i could scrounge 3900. sux man! so that bike's out the question. i only get a pay coming through next friday, so the bank won't give me overdrafting till then.. stingy buggers!

so, if i can pull up the cash, the guy said he'd sell it to me (obviously, as he is trying to get rid of the bike). but will have to see. am liking andrew's concept of don't bother if it's 3hours out of auck. saw a blue/black zzr down in wellington though. am tempted to get that looked at. will see tomorrow, when i have more time to think about it, and as people down there.

looking at the bikes u all posted now.. hehe.. update in a few!

haha, considering the work done on it i think it's safe to assume that bike was seriously rooted when he bought it

after all that work selling seems a bit silly - maybe it's still giving trouble or he's afraid something else is about to go?

with the exception of a motox bike i'd not buy anything that's had shitloads of work on it as it indicates something is/has been wrong. if all that work is a result of the motor seizing the crank may be about to go

(that exception is because motox bikes are meant to have everything replaced at very short intervals - like 3 race meets or 150hours per piston sort of short interval - not that it matters too much if it's a yamaha cause they just keep on going)

    hey all.... new meet plan..

    MEET AT STEVE'S AT 4!!!

haha. as am going with yui (&jaffa) to get his fairings. jaffa's kindly agreed to be the driver for most of our expediting! so meet at steve's place, 4:00 pm (hope you don't mind that mr president). and from there we shoot over to mission bay to view the spada (just for viewing sake).

i'm liking the black gn. guy said he's busy this weekend, and so we'll be arranging a time to meet during the week. 750's a steal (if it's in good nick). so we shall wait and see!

see u all at squggles at 4! (hehe, here i am, nicely advertising, yet not having askeed him if we could before hand). - again, hope u don't mnd... u'll be at home, right?

he's got a knack for being late - even to things at his own house

aah! .... but it's a gn, don't they last for years and years... man, bike hunts are madness! well, it's worth a look into at least, wouldn't u say? another little expedition? u can put the owner to the interrogation seat, and fire questions at him.

true, there's bound to be somthing astray, with all that work... but the crank??? aah!, it's madness i tell u... madness!

never actually heard someone say they were reliable

all i've ever heard is how shit they have been since they began building them in china

and yes i do realise your one is an especially fucked example of a bike - i was surprised it made the trip to and from uni lol
    is it any clunkier now?

i'll be honest, i made that assumption based on teh fact that gn's are so old and that the majorty of them still seem to be running - with a few caches here and there, but running-so again none-the-less.

(also how beat up squiggles' gn looked, and the fact that it's still going). - so again, went on an assumption.(there's a reason i'm a noob - apart from not having a bike yet)

oh, and i think i read something along the lines of "trusty" commuter, or something like that in some magazine....actual words may differ, "slightly" .
