    Honda wreckers

I looked but couldn't find a sticky list of motorcycle wreckers on here. Google and yellowpages are about to get a thrashing. Can anyone recommend a wrecker that might have the following parts for an Honda VTR-1000-F2.

    Alternator cover
    Gear lever
    LH bikini fairing
    LH exhaust mount

I was going to post "I've wrecked a few Hondas", but thought better of it (don't want people to think I'm a smart-arse).

So, your Firestorm fell down on the LH side?

Have you considered buying parts from the US, if you can't find any secondhand here? It's heaps cheaper than through the dealers, you can get usually them in about a week (as opposed to, "Sorry - we don't have any of these parts that should be commonly available - 3 weeks ex-Japan, and please pay up front!")
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Lucky his leg got inbetween the bike/bank or there could have been more damage to it !

So ya got the claim through then Rob ?
Wasn't there a bit of damage to the can also or ya just gonna live with that ?

I know of people that have bought complete motors form vic wreckers (RC51, and CBR1000) apparently very good to deal with and dont mind shipping to the land of the long white kiwi.

That would be a very generous way of putting it.

The claim is accepted but they've yet to make a decision on repair vs write off. The repair quote is way over the top so I'm casting about to see how much it would cost me to repair. I might work up my own quote and suggest they pay me to conduct the repairs. I'm not sue how that'll fly though. I've already sourced a replacement set of pipes if required.

Shit, a write off and buy back would be a money spinner i recon ! Ya only looking at 9 spot roughly for rereg and if you get her back on the road, with just the parts ya have listed mmmm could have a fair amount left over for tricky bits !
Be carefull with a guote, you could seriously do yaself out of pocket !
She was a mint looking bike, and the quote they have would be to put it back that way !

Sage advice - this is new ground to me. The key issue around self-repair is what will the bike be worth afterwards - it has to make economic sense. The parts listed are simply the bits I haven't located. There's a bunch more work required but I've already got a good handle on the scope of that. A write off would likely go to tender so guarantee of securing a buy back (if that's what you meant). Simple stuff like aftermarket screen and cans knocks heaps off the repair bill so perhaps that'll work.

Just for interest, the price of new parts from Mrka (in US$) is as follows:
    Alternator cover: $116.62
    LH Bikini fairing: $236.56
LH zorst mount (wasn't sure what bit this was, but I found something that looked like it might be it for $19.64)
    Gear lever: $63.94

You could also probably find some of this stuff on eBay - the trick is that sometimes the sellers won't ship to (or even sell to) non-US buyers. I've got friends in the US, so I just get them to handle it for me, then PayPal them the money.
    ... and that's what I think.

Econohonda contacted. Spoke to Hamish. Sounds like they'll be able to sort me out if it comes to sourcing parts myself.

True that ! With the home work your doing and the quote for repair you have from them, will give you an edge when/if it goes to tender as well !
The insurers will be working out the write off cost, minus the repair quote and wanting around whats left with the tender offers ! (way i figure they work it anyway lol)
With your knowledge of the cost of gettin her in shape with 2nd hand bits/after market gear plus possibly a repaint, could put you in a good position to tender high and still make a buck !
Allways dodgy though, there could be a small tweek in the frame no one has noticed as yet ! It did hit pretty hard, ask the rider !
