It's like waving a red flag at a bull... or a paddock of them in this case!

The best thing people can do is avoid critising these guys - it will only annoy them more, fuelling more operations targeting bikers which will only make life harder for those on the ATNR and other social rides around the district.

We end up being the losers.... especially with fines now being given for minor issues that may have previously only attracted a friendly warning - many of us can no longer afford huge fines or demerits with the cost of living spiralling upwards as it is!

Unless there is an official directive to concentrate on one particular group, then there is no place for personal opinions from any officer of the law.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

You'd prefer a robotic cop who only functions 100% as per law and police policy? What about the cop who might be of the opinion that motorcyclists aren't a significant risk group and turns a blind eye to their minor indiscretions, is that guy allowed an opinion?

Where do you think discretion comes from if not the cops personal opinion, taking into account the seriousness of the breach as well as the time place & circumstances? Is a cop still allowed to use their brain or in these instances should they simply consult with the manual of official directives before deciding whether action needs to be taken?

it's well known the traffic police don't have brains, how else would they end up sitting behind a wheel all day, getting paid pittance, writing tickets for petty petty offenses; brainwashed into believing the propaganda on tv and what there station commander tells them.

You just have to watch the police shows on TV to know they're 'not very smart'

What's this crap about discretion? This ginga targets bikers mercilessly, sometimes putting their lives in danger and writing out tickets that some here say are based on pure lies. That is not the actions of an impartial officer of the law, and you know it.

He was about to get a ticket for high beaming some twat who was tailgating him with his lights on full beam. If that's not antagonistic and deserving of a wind up what the hell is?

reality check: some of us actually enjoyed and focussed on road SAFETY issues - more than just writing tickets. D898 (and I know who he is) is an ex-gdb cop - not ex-MOT (who tend to be a lot more 'black and white').

i went on patrol with a mate on highway patrol over in the BOP in the weekend, we let at least a dozen bikes (well) above the speed limit fly right by - they all braked and slowed when they saw us (we had seen them LONG before that though) but we could have had 10 licences easily. and before you say 'oh they all would have run', they were west bound on the toll road - it's easy to get that blocked off down in the time it takes to call the toll booth.

Geez Boomer, you're so full of shit!

They get paid the same as any other cop of the same rank.

And if you think they're not very smart just look at the 'clients' they deal with and THEIR thought process - and then think "And I have to share the roads with all these morons I see getting stopped on 'Motorway Patrol".

According to you cops aren't allowed opinions, therefore discretion should never be allowed as it requires an opinion in order to be applied correctly.

I don't really give a stuff about the ginga, if he's endangering others then people should take action to stop it, there are right ways and wrong ways to go about it. But without deliberately trying to offend anyone I can see plenty of reasons on these forums why certain people on certain "social" rides have been targeted for enforcement.

Of course they are. I never said they weren't. Discretion is arguably the most valuable 'tool' in the cop's bag of tricks. But when their opinion spills over into merciless and dodgy targetting of a particular road user group, then it's time that cop was brought to heel.
I am never on that road to have witnessed firsthand any of the claims, but some of the people making them I'd trust to tell the truth implicitly.
And I've said it plenty of times in this thread that there are channels for this sort of problem and the victimised should use them (perhaps they have) but that they should stop talking about what they will do on here, since any talk on here is simply winding this ginga git up to new heights of stupidity.

No, you just said that the cops opinion needed to come via some "official directive".

But hey, that's just my opinion!
