    Of course, had you been riding the prescribed 250 already, this wouldn't be a problem...

    Anyhoo, all the best bud!

    You ask for help, then insult everyone who you were asking?

    Ah well, some of us have big enough tackle to be seen on a 250... and others of us need to compensate...

    Stop giving him flak. It's a stupid law, and I know many people will agree with me. It means the 250s are artificially propped up in price with no increase in safety for learner riders. As a student who was looking around for a bike for a period of about 2 months, I found it incredibly frustrating that every 250cc bike I went to look at was worth a ridiculous sum of money considering the condition. My budget was limited (I'm a student ffs, I'm not made of money), and almost every 250 I looked at was sooo overpriced.

    If it wasn't for my desire to be legal(ish), I would have done what breakaway did and bought myself a nice 400.

    Quit twisting my words. I ended up with the 400 because I saw it on trademe for cheap, and used the buy now option straight away. I didn't go out looking for a >250. I bought it sight unseen (well I did see the photos in the auction). My top priority was having a reliable bike, in the style that I wanted (Sport), that I was able to afford. Everything else was secondary. It's not like I went and jumped straight on a 1000. FYI, I had a 2 stroke 150 which would require a top end rebuild shortly, which I didn't want to deal with, and quite frankly didn't have the funds to, so I flicked it and got the 400.

    Also, it's not about 'the tackle'. It was never about buying a fast bike. It's all about how I'm way too tight to pay $5000 for a CBR250RR when I can get a CBR400RR for $2500. Despite 'high ks', my 400 is in top condition. No tappet noise, no weird grinding, etc. - probably because it hasn't been owned by learner riders who thrash the hell out of it when cold and have no clue how to lube a throttle cable. And have no idea what preventive maintenance is.

    GN = slow, I concur.

    Can you now legally ride the bikes you own?
