I am going to have to take Chanceyys advice and take them all for a ride when I can legally. I do like the Ninja 650?...but I want something I can pack up for a weekend away and take gravel in its stride without the road handling being compromised.
That leaves Dual purpose types...BMW-too tall/heavy, Tiger-too tall/heavy, V-strom-so so but not convinced, Kawakas-too tall/heavy....Buell 2008 Ulysses with heated handgrips and a lower seat height...tooooo bloody powerful but oh so lovely
650 V-Stroms get very good write-ups (esp in Two Wheels). Apparently they go alright and are very economical. Ran into a guy I used to flat with the other day and he's got one - he's over 20 stone and it seems to get him around well enough (poor wee bike). Seat height?

Yeah the seat height is fine-but most other Dual purpose (although I know they aren't really Dual or good on gravel-just seem to have a higher suspension?), are too tall. I have been told they can adjust anything `down' but if a bikes setup has to be moved that much then somethings gotta give- in that something else must be compromised at the expense of the lower height?

Oh dear, another sad little post from the man who thinks sarcasm is wit.

Both good rides, one a bit longer than the other, should be good!

If ya gonna go there (Turangi) why not carry on round to Taupo for lunch and come back down the Napier/Taupo's?
That way it's half west coast (well middle of the country anyway) and half east coast. 600k round trip.
Did'nt we do the Fordell loop not that long ago or am I thinking of something else?

Unfortunatly i probally cant come on this ride
    Have family visiting from hamilton.
But i have heard of riders from Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua and possibly Tauranga are doing a big loop. Starts in auckland, heads through those cities, then down to Taupo.
I believe its a ride to remember fallen riders?
Anyway, so if you guys do head upto Taupo, im sure you will meet all the other bikers
